personalityBenny is constantly trying to live up to his mother's expectations. Starting at a young age, right after the messy divorce between his parents, Bianca would perpetually tell her son that men were worthless, unreliable mongrels that didn't deserve anyone, who only lived to lie and hurt nice women. She always told him that she knew he could be better than them, and that she would practically disown him if she ever heard that he had hurt a girl in any way.
Consequently, Benny never objectified girls. Being a major prude, the thought of sex or any clothing under a shirt terrifies him and he's gone his whole life without a relationship or even a kiss. He usually comes off as just another "one of the girls" when around Darcy, but little does she know the fact that in fact he is madly in love with her.
He's BEEN madly in love with her, in fact, ever since the summer of his 8th grade year. Battling with his inner demons about objectifying girls and how it would be okay for him to like a girl in a way that could lead to him potentially hurting her one day, he made a vow to keep that information to himself until the time was right. In the meantime he would always be there for her. he would be the boy that she could lean on, the person that she could depend on for advice and for help until one day he finally worked up the courage to ask her if she had the same feelings for him.
past Bianca Carmichael's divorce was not a pretty one. After living in a situation where she could be a stay-at-home mom since the birth of her son, it was incredibly hectic for her to have to transition into a smaller living space and trying to find a job in a tight market. The fact that her ex, Devin, took absolutely everything didn't make matters any better. As previously mentioned, throughout much of Ben's childhood he was constantly being told that all men were terrible monsters, and that he simply had to be better than the rest of the male race.
When Bianca finally found a job, it was a low-paying secretary job for a Mr. James Hart. While the pay was nothing near what she had been accustomed to with her ex-husband, and she had to make some changes in her lifestyle, it was a fair job, and she found herself falling head over heels for her boss. With his devilish good looks and his suave personality, the only drawback was the fact that he was married and lumped with a brat of a kid, nothing like her darling Benny, that's for sure.
She found herself starting to drag Benny along with her, whenever she couldn't find a nanny or she didn't want to leave her poor baby alone at home. She found that by having her son distract the she-demoness daughter, Bianca had no trouble sidling up to the father, being a perfect sycophant and doing whatever the great man wanted. Of course, he never exactly responded to her advances, but that didn't mean anything, right? He could just not want to send any messages while there were children around.
When the divorce papers came through for Mr. Hart, Bianca felt like it had to be a sign from heaven. She knew that he had to be getting the divorce so that he could finally return the love she had for him. In order to fully show him how ready she was to be the mother of his children, she brought Benny to work with her every day, allowing him to play with Darcy every day every Summer. She even offered to take the two out to movies and the park and all kinds of exciting activities. Though Mr. Hart never managed to find the time to thank her, she knew that he appreciated the motherly tendencies Bianca had picked up.
While Bianca was busy carting him around to spend time with Darcy, Benny was developing the most intense friendship of his life. He would do anything for Darcy. When she started to model during her time in Hawaii, he took up drawing, just so he would have another way to connect with her. All across his walls he keeps the best of the drawings he's made over the years. They help remind him that even though Darcy may be off gallivanting with soem other boy and building her heart up just to have it broken again, he would always be there for her, and she would eventually realize what she was missing.

The day that Darcy moved back to New York full time was the happiest day of Benny's life. Now that he gets to see her every single day, he feels like his life finally has meaning. Even though she seems to constantly be in flux as far s relationships go, either hooking up or absolutely breaking down, he is willing to wait to be her boyfriend. He swore to himself that he would do whatever it takes to keep her happy and he's sticking by that. He sees that right now his job for her is to be the one she can lean on for support, but one day he will be ready to go farther with her.
While he happily will chat for hours with her, he has yet to make many other friends. He has a select few that he has opened up to, but for the large majority he tries to get by without being noticed. His grades are modest, but he's gotten by all his life in the honor roll classes. He knows that he's one of the smarter people in the school, and he doesn't particularly enjoy having to talk with the dumber folks, though some of them have ended up being his best friends.
