It was a very fine Saturday. Lyla loved this time of year back in Georgia, the transition time between spring and summer. Above you had the sun shining, with only a few clouds sprinkling the light sapphire sky. But all around you still flowed the spring breeze that she loved so much. It wasn't cold, it wasn't too hot, the temperature was just at that point where you could step outside in whatever you wanted, really, and not have to worry about warmth.
Scarlett decided that, back in her time, this would have been the perfect day for a barbecue at Twelve Oaks. Alas, Twelve Oaks was no longer standing, of course, and plus, this was the city. Her new life was so much more fulfiling than her previous one, except for that one little situation that she could not think of on a gorgeous day like today. No, she would think of Rhett tomorrow.
But, as of time now, this was also a perfect day to find some beaus.
Now, courtship was definitely not the same as it was before. For one, men did not marry ladies as often, and even if they did, there was divorce. Oh, how interested she had been when she learned that divorce was no longer as shunned as it was, and was even common in these days. Oh, had it been that way before! She could have divorced Charles Hamilton and Frank Kennedy and gotten money and still have been recieved. And Ashley! Once he had realized he loved her, he could have left Melanie and married her instead! Though- what would that have one to Melanie? She had loved him so....
Yes, Scarlett had come to care about Melanie, especially after she had realized she didn't really love Ashely anymore. But oh, that didn't matter now! That was all in the past and it was time for the present.
Lyla had laid out the large blanket in the field at Central Park, the basket she had made for her beside her, and was now staring at the New York sky. How she had ever come to love New York City, she didn't understand. This was the North, after all. Hell, their baseball team were called the Yankees. But that part was easy to dismiss, considering sports were such a bore to her. Even though she missed Atlanta, New York City was so.... so exhilarating.
As Lyla just laid there, thinking, she really didn't care if anybody flirted with her. Oh, she could just lay here under this sky forever. Though she really didn't expect any to not come, considering what she was wearing. The bosom of her dress was low and shaped like a V, and it was almost a little too short. If Mammy were here, and she were younger, she would definitely disapprove and make her change into something else. Lyla had taken her shoes off and her hat had came off while she laid down.
It wasn't often she let herself become so careless about her appearances, but this calming breeze and beautiful afternoon sky would make anyone so.
