This picnic will soon depart
Real life, I'm sad to see you go It was a good day for going to the park. Not one of those going-to-the-park alone sort of days, either; it was definitely one of the bring-some-friends-along kind of days. Matt loved those sorts best of all, for while it was fun to have to create one's own adventures for the day, it was always nice to have someone with which to share the triumphs of said adventures. Torrence was, thankfully, just the sort of person perfect for such a job. She'd always been that way, from the moment he met her two years ago in the principal's office. Now if that wasn't a place to make new friends, Matt didn't know what was. They'd been almost as inseparable as he and Addison from then on, creating new and exciting things to do with each and every ten minute time period they spent together. She wasn't boring, that was for sure.
Today they were skipping stones. Matt was particularly good at this, as he was at most things, and quite as eager to show off as ever; standing barefoot in the calf-deep water with his jeans rolled up to his knees, Matt threw the things almost effortlessly, delighting himself with each new record he broke. "Hey! Look! Didja see that one?!" he actually jumped a little bit, pointing his finger at Torrence just as the stone disappeared beneath the surface after its tenth skip across. Turning to face his friend entirely, Matt crossed his arms over his chest, throwing he that cocky grin he was so known for. "Betcha can't beat ten," he taunted with raised brows. I'll miss you with all my heart, But I'd rather be alone

Some mornings, Torrence woke up and believed, honest to God, that her parents were demon spawn and loved to see Torrence tortured in New York. Because if they knew their daughter at all, they would know that she hated cities, right? This was one of those days. Whenever Torrence got in this right foul mood, only someone like her best friend Matt could dredge up her happy personality from the depths of loathing. He always knew the cure, and skipping stones was, of course, the perfect remedy. Only a few stones in and Torrence was happy again, very stubbornly trying to beat Matt like always.
Standing in the water, which came up to her thighs as a result of being so short (she was only two inches past five feet), Torrence watched as Matt bragged about getting the stone to skip ten times. Well, Torrence would work her arm till it didn't work no more before she gave up trying to beat that. As Matt pointed gleefully at the rock, Torrence slipped a little water gun out of her pocket. She always had little tricks like that hidden on her. Aiming for his face, Torrence laughed as she squirted mercilessly. "I hope that was refreshin, cus you're bout to get hotter then a black leather seat on a hot summer day!" Torrence was full of off the cusp hillbilly metaphors, and she tended to use "hot" instead of "mad". It just made more sense to her, and after two years of being friends with Matt, he usually managed to decipher them.
Torrence grasped a smooth flat stone, all concentration on skipping it. She flicked her wrist ever so precisely, and the stone skipped five, six, seven...eight times before sinking. "Well shoot!" Torrence fumed, gripping her next stone like her life depended on it.

Real life, I'm sad to see you go She was never going to be able to beat him. He was just about to say so, too, when he saw Torrence go for her pocket. Really, there was no time to react. Mouth still open as he began his retort, Matt got the full blast of water right between the eyes; if she hadn't been aiming at him, he would have congratulated her. Spluttering at her taunt, Matt shook the water from his face like a dog, grinning wickedly as he took a step towards her. "You're dead. Absolutely dead," He was laughing, though, perhaps more at her southern joke than anything else, but still...
So as to be fair for the sake of competition, Matt halted his advance just long enough to watch Torrence attempt to beat his record. He hadn't noticed he was holding his breath until the thing dropped beneath the surface. "Told ya so," he laughed in a sing-songy kind of voice. "Betcha can't beat this, either!" moving fast, Matt reached down towards the water, taking a gigantic swing as he stepped forward so as to splash Torrence mightily. Suddenly, skipping stones didn't seem half as important. This was war. I'll miss you with all my heart, But I'd rather be alone

If there was anything Torrence loved more then winning, it was messing around with people. Buttons just had to be pushed. They were there for something, after all. Torrence adored pushing the buttons of her best friend Matt, because he pushed back. It just made the mischeif even more mischevious. Even though Matt towered over Torrence's small frame, she wouldn't be taken down easily. Recieving a face full of water, Torrence dropped the smooth stone into the pond. If that's how he wanted to play, Torrence could definitely play back.
Splashing Matt back, Torrence bent down to refill the water gun. Back up, she squirted Matt in his oblivious, sometimes arrogant face. In reality, Torrence shouldn't be able to comment on Matt'e arrogance, because Torrence had ego problems herself. She just wished at times he was so ignorant to peoples feelings. Like the fact that Torrence had a crush on him. Or Addison. She was obviously infactuated with him, a fact that displeased Torrence. Maybe it was that Matt despised mushy girl feelings so he refused to acknowledge them. Torrence could live with that. For a little while.
"Ya know, Matt, I'm goin'ta end up beatin you one of these days. What're ya gonna do then?" Smirking, Torrence squirted Matt once again.
