personality
Sophie probably isn't the best in a classroom environment. She tends to get distracted easily, and by small, trivial things. Back in grade school, she memorized what every motivational poster in her classrooms instead of the Preamble (though, once she saw the School House Rock video, it made it much easier). She was the kind to stare at a bug flying around the room instead of the teacher, and point out a butterfly outside to her neighbor in the middle of a lecture. Nothing has changed since she entered college, and thus has gotten on the bad side of most her professors. She often gets treated as a child because she acts like one. When it comes to being asked to grow up, she gets very stubborn and often will throw a very immature fit. She's a bit of a procrastinator in that sense, because she doesn't see that/want this to be the time to finally grow up. She definitely has the mindset of youth = invincibility.
As young as she acts, she still thinks about the future all the time. In fact, it's all she really thinks about. She doesn't believe that she needs to make firm/important decisions until much later, and she's always believed that. 'Much later' just hasn't come yet, and it keeps getting pushed back. Though she's not content with what she has now, she makes no move to change her reality. She simply absorbs herself into her imagination, which constantly runs wild. Sophie loves creating fantastical backstories for ordinary things. Like her toys for instance. They all have separate personalities, and while they started out flat, they grew as she did, and she still hasn't forgotten. While she is a bit too old to actually play with her toys, she often uses them in her stories and scribbles. She just makes the animalistic ones human and alter them as needed. Though she hasn't exactly experienced certain things in life, she can often write about them well. Like her first kiss or death of a parent or things of that nature. Her imagination and odd sort of information absorbtion, she can picture what she believes certain things will be like when/if they happen to her or her characters. Sophie fully intends to be a writer when she decides to grow up, even though her parents want her to play professional soccer. While she does have natural talent, she often forgets about practice when something of more importance to her comes up, and has trouble explaining anything without it sounding like an excuse. She doesn't really want to quit the team, or never play sports again, she just would rather be doing other things.
While she may get a bit annoyingly immature at times, Sophie is actually very friendly towards others and is more of an extrovert, believe it or not. In actual fact, she hates being completely alone, which is why she writes or comes up with story ideas. Though she is fully aware her characters are not real, she doesn't consider herself alone at any point. Even when she's asleep, her dreams keep her company (nightmares, on the other hand, are a different and lonely story). So whenever she feels sad or angry or lonely or bored, she likes to delve into this world she's created. Sophie doesn't tell anyone about it, though. She's just too bad at explaining things and she finds it to be extremely personal. Her world, not yours, y'know? And somewhere she's afraid that if she lets the two worlds collide, they'll both fall apart. People might think she's crazy and she won't be able to sit down and write anything, and her characters will disappear.
past
Sophie was born to college sweethearts who had a happy marriage. They both had a bit of money because of their current careers, and even when they aged out of those jobs, they got better paying ones. Christina had been head soccer cheerleader at Barrie University and AJ had been the star player and eventually captain of the team. It was an obvious attraction, and even though after graduation and the wedding they chose career paths with less interaction, they still very much love each other. Sophie only strengthened that bond, though it was obvious from the start that she was a little different. But that was okay. Mrs. Miller quit modeling after she got pregnant and started designing at home, something she always wanted to do. That creative spark became a full-fledged fire when it passed on to her daughter, though in a different form, it seemed. When she was little and her parents got her athletic gear and sport enrollments, she really wanted the stuffed bear she saw on the shelf at Wal-Mart and had already named. While reluctant, her parents did give in, though they were firm about the active role of sports in her life.
This fasicination with toys really wasn't just a short phase like they were hoping. No, it continued until way past her toddler years and into her preteens even, although when middle school rolled around, she stopped playing with them, but kept them nice on a shelf where she could see them. It was obvious she still loved them, just in a different way now. Something else had also changed. Sophie's dad got some time off with the off-season, and usually he spent that with her. But in Soph's sixth grade year, he spent it with a woman. Though she stayed in her room the whole time, she knew the woman who wasn't her mother was there and spending time with her father in a way she had seen in a few movies. And she was aware it wasn't proper or really right at all, but how could she tell her mother? She didn't want them to get divorced like others did. So she decided to go to her father once the lady left one night. At first he was angrily defensive, but then softened at the frightened and confused expression of his daughter. The strange lady never came back. To their house, at least.
Of course, that had to be the night the lady left her scarf. A hideous thing, so her mother said when she found at it, that she would never EVER believe her husband would buy her. That was followed by muffled screams as Sophie hid under her blanket ans eventually under her bed until she woke up early the next morning. Her mom was in bed and her dad was on the couch. Sophie thought her parents would split for sure.
But no, they didn't. After the initial anger, they decided that they were going to do what was best for Sophie and their careers, and seeing as a divorce would cause unnecessary stress, they acted like the slip never happened. Though it was an unspoken oath that if it ever happened again, the marriage would be over.
Sophie, meanwhile, was having her own issues in school. Her teachers complained that she hardly ever paid attention in class, and was doing horrible in everything except language arts, and even then, her spelling was atrocious. Other concepts she was just not understanding. Though, in all reality, language arts was just what required the most creativity and writing and all that, so she was excelling in those.
When this was brought to her parent's attention, they hired a tutor right away, seeing as she wouldn't be able to play sports if her grades continued to suffer. The tutor was good, and soon she was getting B's in all her classes, which was perfectly okay. By high school, she was doing a little better, though she still retained her daydreamer ways. This was the time when she decided she wanted to be a writer, but didn't have the heart to tell her parents who were so passionate about sports. So she excelled in both fields until senior year, when she got a scholarship to Barrie for her soccer.
present
Now, Sophie wasn't ever cut out for college, or so she thought. She actually ended up with teachers whose exams were based on stuff you're supposed to do outside the classroom, which is much better for her. While her professors don't appreciate her, daydreaming ways, the girl is actually excelling. She plays soccer still, though does forget to go to practices sometimes. But she's rather talented, so no matter. Or at least, that's what she thought. Apparently, she thought a lot of things differently than what was true.
Recently, she found out that her parents still have connections within Barrie. Though they didn't outwardly admit that they used those connections to get her into the college when she confronted them, it still made her very angry and doubtful of the skill everyone said she had. Though instead of not caring, it's pushed her to try harder and prove to herself that she deserved the scholarship. Plus, she is focusing on that future stuff, and maybe even starting to achieve it slightly.
family
- Christina Miller ; mother ; former model turned designer
- AJ Miller ; father ; former soccer star turned coach.
likes
- Butterflies. To her, they kind of represent freedom, which is akin to her escaping from reality. If she ever gets a tattoo, she wants it to be a butterfly.
- Animals. She's kind of an animal lover, though she's not a vegetarian and she won't go all PETA on anybody for wearing fur/swatting a fly or anything ridiculous like that.
- Boys. Though she's not a flirt by any sense of the imagination, and really doesn't even know how to be one, she does dream of them in a fairy-tale like way. She's the type to doodle a heart with her and her crush's name in her notebook.
- Imagination. She is a firm believer in 'if you can dream it, you can do it', and that that all progress is based on that. ALL progress.
- Writing. As stated, it's kind of her let-out for any negative emotions or boredom. And the best part is that she never has a lack of things to write. She knows her characters better than herself and never gets writer's blockthe lucky bitch.
- Toy Story, Winnie the Pooh, anything that involves toys with personalities.
dislikes
- Boredom. Boring classes, boring situations, boring people. Things that are flat and have no color. Though she does like to add color, even if it isn't real.
- Sports. Okay, she doesn't DISLIKE sports really all that much. She actually does like playing soccer. It just sucks when she gets an idea in the middle of a game and gets distracted.
- Things set in stone. Sophie likes change, which seems like a contradiction to her refusal to mature, but here's the thing: Growing up would mean having to make fast and permanent decisions, whereas now she can change her mind and change it again.
- When people get frustrated with her. If you were really the grown up in this argument, you wouldn't be arguing with her and would be able to deal with her quirks.
- When people misunderstand her. Somehow, it always leads to disaster that she has to fix, and it suuuucks.
- Movies with dolls and the like becoming evil. Someone showed her Chuckie once. She didn't leave her dorm for a week.
other notes She ALWAYS carries some sort of notebook and writing utensil with her.

book title Winnie the Pooh
backstory Christopher Robin is the boy creator of the Hundred Acre Woods and all it's inhabitants. His favorite is obviously Pooh, but he does love all of them and is sure to leave notes telling if he's gone, which wouldn't be a problem if a certain bird could learn to use his context clues. He seems very mature for his age, yet still has this world.
