personality At first glance he seems like the type of guy who thinks too highly of himself, doesn't give a damn about your feelings, and is pretty much the womanizing jerk. None of these even begin to be true. Though he has been in a lot of relationships that failed, it was mostly because the girls ditched his sensitivity for a bad-boy type. A common trade-up. It's not to say he hasn't broken a few hearts in his time, because he has, though most of the time he feels guilty about it. He doesn't go back and try to fix what's broken in his life, but he does for others. Ezekiel came from a family that gave more than they had, and he was raised to follow the same principles.
Zeke normally impresses people (girls) by doing magic tricks, then talking about New Orleans and how his family helped out when Katrina hit. It's not hard for him to get a girl, but keeping one is a different story. Often girls get bored with him and leave before it gets too serious. But that's okay, because he'd much rather play matchmaker than worry about his own life. A lot of people hang out with Zeke solely because it's very easy to get him tio do a favor because he's so generous, which leads to him being taken advantage of.
If there's anything Mr. Mays can't stand, it's people taking advantage of the nice guys like him. He doesn't ask for favors in return, but if he goes out of his way to do something for you, you better be grateful. A 'thank you' would not be out of line. If he asks you to meet somewhere to get you whatever you asked for, you better be on time, as well, or he'll leave with no question. Offer expired. It's not like he wants to be mean about it, it's just that he has to in order for him to not be taken advantage of.
past When Ezekiel Benjamin was born, there was no happier day in the Mays family. He was to be thier only child, since thier particular line of work would be unpredictable and they could be called away at any time. From the time he was born until he was 10 years old, they lived in New Orleans. They moved to New York City since their office was moved there, taking along a nanny from New Orleans that was teaching him the ways of the medium. They only stayed for around a year and a half, though, because in 2005, one of the most horrible disasters hit his hometown.
His parents were business partners in a charitable, non-profit organization that dealt with natural disasters. So it wasn't a shock that when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, they were extrememly busy. The hotel outside the destruction of the city was his new home for a few years. After things were cleaned up a bit, they moved back to New York City in the summer. Ezekiel was 14 at the time, and would be going into high school that year.
He never really got to spend time with his parents in his awkward preteen stage, but there were never any hard feelings. Zeke understood that what they were doing helped people who needed it desperately, and honestly he wanted to be just like them when he grew up. Though who he was spending time with was teaching him dark arts that not many believe in, but it was all real to him. When back in New Orleans, his nany started going a little crazy, with all the ghosts and all. Zeke was pretty much left to fend for himself, so he became a bit of an independent person.
present Growing up in New Orleans, he was exposed to the supernatural at an early age. His nanny was a psychic/medium and his best friend's dad was a street magician, so he learned to do magic tricks. This is often how he impresses people (mainly girls). High school couldn't be better since he's smart, and even the after hours are fun, as well. He goes to the occasional party/nightclub, not to the knowledge of his parents.
He goes to Baum Academy, and stays in the dorms there. Which pretty much means that he really does not see his parents at all. Ever. He hasn't seen them since Christmas, and even then it was only for a day. Again, there are no hard feelings because he has to learn so he can do what they do when he 'grows up'. His nanny moved back to New Orleans.
