The sunset over Long Island Sound was gorgeous. The colors bled together in the waves that lightly lapped against the hull of the anchored boat, covering the full spectrum from deep reds to enchanting yellows and stunning purples. He was sure that Freddie would call him gay for thinking about the beauty of the sunset like that, but he could hardly be bothered. The ocean just looked so inviting, so warm, so comforting at sunset. It was like his foster home. His own parents had ended up being worthless and uncaring, but out here on the boat, the one good thing they'd ever been able to give him, he was safe and would never be left alone out there. Even when he was fishing on his on, he would always have the sound of the soft, gentle waves to keep him company and the seagulls overhead to be conversational with.
The sunsets over the sound always made him sappy and took his breath away. He leaned over the rail on the frigid deck, looking out over the water while Will was busy doing whatever inside the cabin. On past trips RJ might have felt obligated to go in and talk with her, but by now she knew that these few private moments were what gave him the strength to deal with life every other day. he thought that was what most defined their friendship. They both could stand to be apart from each other for a few minutes without feeling awkward or feeling the need to go and talk with each other. They didn't feel awkward around each other. Ever. They could stand a few minutes of silence without rambling on about something stupid or whining. That was the difference between RJ's relationship with Will and his relationship with Freddie, who couldn't seem to go a few SECONDS without whining about something or shouting profanities.
As the final sliver of sun sank behind the horizon, RJ stood up from the rail and rubbed his freezing hands together, trying to get some sensation back in them. He was one of those unlucky people whose extremities went numb after too long in the cold. He was used to it by now, trying to get the blood in his hand flowing again so it wasn't just a dead useless weight attached to his arm. He swore one of these days he was going to have to get it amputated.
Ducking into the much warmer cabin which was lit up already with the comforting ambient electric light of his family's handicraft, RJ shot a grin at Will. "Having fun yet?," he asked conversationally, blowing into his hands a bit more. "I'm not gonna lie, somehow I'm not all that disappointed that Freddie bailed on us. Now that we don't have to worry about him running around with sharp objects, I'm suddenly a whole lot more relaxed."
RJ walked over to the couch, plopping himself down and trying to warm his hands, which were stubbornly remaining all tingly and pins and needles-y. "Now if only I could feel my hands again I'd be about as happy as a clam." outfit;;oh lookie herenotes;;da cobfish

OUTFIT OF 'OH ARE YOU A BOY, RJ? O.o'Okay, to be honest, Will was a little upset. He ditched them! FOR A GIRL! Not just any girl, not one who was all sugar-spice-and everything nice. NO! THAT FUCKING SLUT KAREN CLARK! You know what? Will hoped he had a real good time. Will really did! She hoped that he got the notch on his bed post, and she hoped that he casted his fucking seed or whatever! She hoped he got syphilis- she'd say herpes, but her hopes in one day being his girl prayed for something a bit more treatable but awful. Nothing says keep it in your pants like a q-tip up your pee hole- or she got pregnant- THE WORSE STD OF ALL- and they just had a grand old time. Hearing RJ above deck as she changed into her pajamas- the pajamas that were fucking so innocently and accidentally revealing that she TOTALLY HADN'T picked out with Freddie in mind or nuthin- Will's anger melted into defiance. Her and Arj could just have fun without the horn dog. She dressed in a little soft lime pair of shorts with a matching tank top, which were a nice and breathy cotton fabric that she really liked. Her long (or, long in proportion to her petite body) legs, honed by diligent baseball practice, were toned with lean muscle. The top did reveal a subtle amount of cleavage, but Will's modesty and the fact that it was only RJ on the boat inclined her to pull on a large sweater that was five sizes to big. She wore green thong slippers that were plushy and squishy, and a plain pair of star stud earrings. Her make up consisted of brown eyeliner and clear mascara, but she had one of those faces and complexions that didn't require much make up, and her long brown hair just fell down her back naturally. It didn't occur to her, in a twist of irony, that the outfit that would have gone unnoticed by Freddie may well be noticed by RJ. In the kitchenette of the luxurious Cobfish, Will tried to get in the groove of having fun. FUN FUN FUN. Because Freddie fucking Foster was not about to mess up her day. Will simply wouldn't allow it. So she sat perched on the counter, making the Mexican pizzas for her and RJ, wiggling a little to the 80's station blaring from the radio. She sipped her orange mountain dew, charging up on caffeine that would prevent sleep for a good portion of the night. Piling on overly generous amounts of cheese on the pizzas (real beef for RJ's, and ground veggies for her) she heard RJ come down the steps as she jammed them in the little oven. RJ was funny, breaking a wide and consuming grin on Will's pixie face despite her irratation. True, she couldn't exactly agree. She thought Freddie and his runs-with-scissors devil-may-care attitude was fun and exciting. But she was happy to be here with RJ, who was her other dearest friend in the world. Contrary to her true thoughts, Will nodded in agreement. "Yeah, now we won't be subjected to lectures on how great he is." As if Will needed a lecture. "Food should be done here soon! It smells rocker, don't it?" Looking over, Will saw RJ shiveringly try and warm himself. With a grin, and ever the helper, Will crossed over to him with her dainty little steps and took his hands without any request to do so. "Investing in a pair of gloves would be smart, dingy." She teased, taking his hands and placing them under each arm pit, letting them get engulfed by folds of sunny, pastel yellow, fabric. Again, it didn't come to mind that she was definitely in what could be called his personal bubble, or that his wrists were gingerly brushing against her side boob, or that he might be intrigued by the smell of her honey-cucumber-mint body lotion. This was RJ after all. If someone like Freddie couldn't notice any feminine qualities about her, RJ certainly couldn't. "So, what's the plan, Stan? Pedicures, ice cream, chick flicks, and gossip?"

This boat was really the best home he'd ever known. Just right now was the perfect example. All he'd had to do to escape the freezing cold of the ocean in winter was take a step inside and it was like he'd walked right into one of those disgustingly cheesy 50s Lucille Ball specials. Filled with soft, warm light and the smells of a teenager's dream meal and inhabited by the every dainty and spritely Will Fayette to keep him company. He had definitely picked a perfect little haven for himself.
Will's comment on the food was just the trick to get RJ's mind off all the chaos that he was avoiding from Freddie and made him focus on what was right there in front of him. Right here and right now there was one thing that Freddie didn't have, and that was Will Fayette. For tonight she belonged to him and him alone. Sure, she'd be all over Freddie the next day, hounding him about how indignant she was that he had ditched them for that hussy who'd climbed him like a tree, but tonight the two of them would feel like they were the last two people on earth. No one else would matter just so long as they were alone together inside the Osprey. Privately, he thought about just how angelic she looked tonight. How even when she put no effort into her looks she looked like she was ready for the catwalk.
"Food smells absolutely to die for. You know how hungry I get after a long day of not catching anything," he smirked at her as she made her way over, reminiscing about the day of slow bites on the Sound.
As she grabbed his hands and stuffed them under her arms, RJ tried to look appropriately bored with the entire situation, like this was actually quite boring. Inside, however, he couldn't help but have it occur to him just how close this was to being a hug. Really, the positioning was just a bit off. If his hands were just a bit lower, resting just a bit above her hips with her arms around him it would be a scene ripped right out of some cliche love story. Two teenagers embracing on a boat in a calm sea. Sadly, though, that was not the path that destiny had laid out for him with Will just yet. He was there to play the role of the friendzoned brother figure, not some romantic counterpart. He couldn't let his secret fantasies get in the way of their night together though.
At the prospect of pedicures and chick flicks, RJ's face scrunched up in a disgusted snarl. "I swear, sometimes you act like you're trying to turn me into a girl." Breaking into a laugh, he twirled her around to hold her from behind as the radio switched from some Eurythmics song to another 80s hit Heaven is a Place on Earth.
Resting his chin on her shoulder, RJ proposed in her ear "What I had in mind was some dancing, some dining and maybe some drinking if the night starts to get a little boring. We could throw some gossip in there if you like, and ice cream never hurt anybody, but like hell are you getting anywhere near my toes with a nail file and polish." Without waiting for a response, he started to sway the two of them in time to the upbeat song.

Will Fayette wasn't completely daft. She sorta, kinda, maybe knew that possibly, RJ Teach had a little crush on her. A completely harmless, teeny-weeny, crush. Innocent enough for him to never act on it, probably sparked by his innate competition with Freddie as she was as obvious in liking him as a charging rhinoceros. So, she could get away with ignoring it. It wasn't that he wasn't good looking, because he was. He even had this debonair, mature, swagger about him. But, well, to be honest, he was more like her gay best friend than her boyfriend.... except he wasn't gay. She could tell him anything, express all of her feelings, and let loose all her whines. He was a faithful shoulder to cry on, the ever vigilant back patter. And for that, she loved him. She just didn't... 'love' love him.
But, seriously, what kid said 'to die for?' that was at least a little gay? Or maybe she was just searching for some justification in pushing her friends feelings under the rug. Maybe there was something to his accusation of her trying to turn him into a girl.
When he spun her, Will laughed, trying to tug away from him. "Wine and dine me, eh? If you were any other guy, I'd accuse you of trying to get more than good company and conversation tonight, Teach." With a smooch on his cheek and a freeing tug, she assured herself that he was not any other guy. And that was fortunate. "But I've told you a thousand times, and I'll tell you a thousand times more: Guys with nice nails are seeexy." There was really no other guy on the face of the planet that could put up with a tease like Will Fayette. RJ Teach had the endurance of an Olympian. "But fine, we can do your plan."
Chipper grin in place, she took out the Mexican Pizzas, cheese all melted and perfect. She had to hand it to him, the word divine sounded totally appropriate. These smelled awesome. The one with gross meat is yours." She grinned, picking a piece of tomato off hers and hopping up on a counter. "I made dinner, you make drinks! Go go go go Teach!" Her dulcetly voice rang in the kitchenette; her sprightly character as unending as the ocean RJ was so keen on.
Ah, wait, he had said gossip! She distinctly remembered the word gossip being in his synopsis for there evening. Her ingenuous grin turned slightly devious as a juicy piece of idle thought popped into her pretty head. "Alright Teach, I got some news for you. Maybe not news. She's about as discreet as me... But I heard a little Pickle had her big old owl eyes set on you, dear Sir." Though she'd have her little go at him, Will privately hoped Freddie didn't know this. He was cute, sure, but Freddie was also totally ruthless.
