...basics*
name Grace Holladay
nickname Tons of people call her Gracie, or Graciepoo. Some people call her Squirt because of her height.
age 16
gender Lady, thank you.
grade Baum Sophomore
hometown Well, that's hard to say. Grace's parents are missionaries and she's never really settled down in one place before Baum. She was born in Edinburgh, Scotland but has lived in South Africa, Brazil, France, India and now the United States.
sexuality Heterosexual
personification The Giant's Wife from Jack and the Beanstalk
status Dormant
face claim Skyler Samuels
...appearance*
hair color A pretty wheat blonde, usually adorned with natural highlights. Grace doesn't mess with her hair as much and as a result it's always curly and occasionally frizzy.
eye color A dark, ocean blue. Grace doesn't think they're anything special.
build She has an average build. While she does have curves, they aren't over pronounced or anywhere close to making her a "sexpot". You can tell she's a girl, and that's good enough for Grace. She's in shape, but not especially so.
height 5' 3"
clothing style Grace likes girly things, like lace and floral designs. She adores skirts but likes to add some edge through a leather biker jacket or maybe some Converses. These are on good days, though, and on most others she's likely to be wearing a regular cardigan and skinny jeans.
distinctive traits Grace is always wearing a smile, which will put people off a lot (I mean, who freakin' smiles at seven in the morning in math class?!). She also always has her silver cross necklace on.

personality
Now, it should be known that while Grace followed around her missionary parents for the first fifteen years of her life, she's not a crazy Jesus freak. She won't force her religion down your throat and won't claim that the Almighty will smite thee down for using His name in vain. In fact, her parent's aren't like that either. While they would prefer that she's a Christian, which she is, they believe that, denomination-wise, Grace should be able to make her own choice. Grace believes in God and prays every night and usually goes to church every Sunday, but she's strayed quite far away from her parent's more orthodox views.
So while Grace won't obnoxiously force her religion upon you, she does carry the christian mindset of giving what you would want to receive and charity. Grace is one of the most outgoing girls you'll ever meet; a true social butterfly, Grace has friends from all kinds of cliques yet doesn't really fit into one herself. The girl has no problem approaching anyone and trying to make friends. Even the most popular girl at Baum isn't safe from Grace's friend-making attempts. Grace is also a different breed of girl; she's rarely ever catty and has never gone behind a friend's back. If she hears a rumor, Grace is quick to let the spreader know that if they're going to tell someone else's story, they should probably check the source. To her, the rumor mill is as reliable as Wikipedia (and let's face it, Wikipedia isn't the most trustworthy) and she'd hate for any of her friends to fall victim to it.
Not only is Grace incredibly sweet, she's pretty selfless and majorly supports charities. She rarely receives money from her parents except for special occasions, so she works part-time as a Starbucks barista and at a nearby sandwich shop to get some money; however, the money hardly stays with Grace. She hands it out to others way too easily (bums on the street don't even have to ask for anything, Grace will go and buy them a bunch of nonperishable food without batting an eyelash). Those ASPCA commercials? Grace tears right up and has to restrain herself from setting up another donation to them (she already donates twice a month). Needless to say, Grace rarely sees her own money. Because of her caring and sweet nature, Grace is very easily manipulated. It was the biggest worry of her parent's to send her off to school in New York because, let's face it, kids these days can be malicious. You wouldn't even have to slip something into her drink, Grace would wholeheartedly believe anyone without asking questions. She's gotten into some particularly sticky situations and has had to rely on friends to come help her, as she has a poor sense of direction as well. Despite all this, she still likes to go to parties (the girl likes to have fun, even though the alcohol freaks her out a bit) and get herself into bad scenarios. Those that know her well make sure she never 1) Sets her drink down anywhere, 2) Goes after said drink, and 3) Basically just stays away from the punch. Grace is a handful.
past
Amy and Charles Holladay had always wanted to bring a child into God's great world, and when Grace came along they were thrilled. The pregnancy had been rocky; Amy was bedridden for four months and she was always at risk for miscarriage or stillbirth because of her past missionary work (being exposed to diseases for the first time). Because of the Lord's grace, their baby girl came out healthy and loud and thus they named her Grace. For the first seven years of Grace's life, she lived in Edinburgh where she learned English, French and Portuguese for the Holladay's future trips to France and Brazil. Despite living there long enough to pick up the accent, Grace has never considered Scotland her home, as most of her years spent there she doesn't even remember.
When Grace turned eight, the family left Edinburgh to do missionary work in South Africa. By far, South Africa was Grace's favorite; most days, while her parents passed out Bibles and helped in shelters, Grace ran around with some of the native children. She got sun poisoning in the first few months (Scottish heritage and a lot of sun never seem to mix well), but after that whole ordeal, everything was good. The Holladays got to go on safaris and visit refugee camps. They spent three years in South Africa, then left for France.
Eleven-year-old Grace did not enjoy France. First of all, some of the beaches? Why were people...ya know...naked there?! It was just so icky! And then one day her parents tried to make her eat this thing called escargot, which turned out to be snails! That's where Grace's fear of bugs really took off; the thought that someone would eat the little slimey buggers was simply disgusting and from then on Grace vowed to eat only peanut butter and jelly sandwiches while in France (well, of course, she made exceptions for the pastries). Two years later, and with pure hatred for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Grace and her parents packed up and moved to Brazil.
Brazil was...crazy, to put it simply. Amy and Charles kept Grace in as much as possible to keep their impressionable thirteen year old away from the "Brazilian bum-bums". It was better, though, than, say, French beaches. At least these people had some clothing! Grace was beginning to grow restless with the homeschooling and missionary travel; she wanted to settle down at a school and get to actually stay with the people she grew close to. Plus, and this was kept away from Amy, who was very overprotective, Grace wanted to actually, you know, meet boys. The girl had been reading a lot of teen magazines, to say the least. That's why, just before she should be starting her freshman year, Grace got her parents permission to enroll at Baum Academy in New York City. She was so pumped to go to New York, to see all the stores and the park and the lights of Times Square. With a little bit of money and advice to stay out of trouble, the Holladays bid their only daughter away to begin the most terrifying journey of anyone's life: High school.
present
Grace's first year in New York was an amazing adventure! She got to see all the typical tourist traps at least twice and managed to get lost more than necessary. It was the dream; she didn't have to worry about acicdently speaking French when everyone else only knew Portuguese, she didn't have to worry about tens of shots every month or any of that other missionary nonsense. She could just be a teenager, and that was what she wanted most.
Grace got a job a nearby sandwich shop and soon after as a Starbucks barista to pay for both her charitable ways and her cooking obsession. All her friends were always overstuffed, and a lot of people jokingly referred to visiting Grace's dorm as visiting grandma's. Grace also met Jackson Hirsch, who became one of her bestest friends ever! Whenever Grace got lost (which was a lot) or found herself in a bad situation (like finding out there wasn't any candy in the van), he was the first person Grace would call. She's a social butterfly at Baum, always the one to approach someone eating by themselves at lunch and invite them to her table.
family
Charles Holladay; 53; father; missionary--
Grace loves her Daddy so so much and would do anything to please him. While he doesn't support the want for overtly material things, he'd give anything to his daughter.
Amy Hainsworth Holladay; 51; mother; missionary--
Grace loves her Momma as well, and the two of them have a healthy mother/dauther bond. She tends not to talk to her about everything anymore (ESPECIALLY boys, God knows Amy wouldn't approve of that), though, because she's afraid her overprotective mother will yank her out of Baum.
likes
- Helping others
- Baking, cooking in general. Grace and her friends would be obese if they didn't have access to a gym.
- Flower arrangement. She's quite good at it.
- Adventures! Hide and seek, climbing, swimming, all that jazz.
- Cleaning. It's well known fact, as Grace's side of the dorm is always neat.
- New things.
- Parties, believe it or not. She really likes having fun
dislikes
- How she's begun to drift away from her parents and their orthodox beliefs.
- Her parent's orthodox beliefs.
- Bugs. She's seen a lot of the world and witnessed many, um, different cultures and didn't mind those, but all the bugs? Any mention of the word and Grace is already a mile away.
- Being tricked or taken advantage of. She's usually too oblivious to notice it, but when she realizes someone conned her, she hates it.
- Seeing people struggling and/or refusing help.
- ASPCA commercials. They break her heart.
other notes Oh my poor baby is gonna get screwed over so much and not even know it ;o;
