build Quite thin. But not sickly in any way. It's just how she is.
height 5'5"
clothing style If you could call it a style at all, really. She doesn't ever match anything she's wearing. Someone referring to her once said, "She looks like she's been dressed by a colorblind and mentally-deficient hobo." There is one constant amonsgt the inconsistency, though, and that is that she almost always wears Converse-type shoes. It's all she owns. Granted, she never wears the same color on each foot, but at least it's something to expect.
distinctive traits Because wearing every color of the rainbow within many different styles of clothing isn't distinctive? But also, her eyebrows are rather... well, prominent. And her eyes always wander and she kind of has a dream-like state about her. Like she doesn't mind what happens to her because she'll wake up soon. Which isn't her thinking at all, but it still seems like it.
...personal*
personality Marissa is quite the odd bird, on the outside. Even at one glance, her clothes and her blank/mystic expression might send one off of a journey of wondering about that odd girl skipping or twirling or singing or all three down the street. And when you talk to her, she often says random things that only very, very vaguely have to do with what you're saying. She likes changing the subject constantly, though she can never change it to something TOTALLY random and has nothing to do with the price of tea in China, that's annoying. When you ask her a simple question, she'll give you an approximate answer. What color is the sky? Orange. What's 2+2? 3. It's something she started when she was little and now she can't shake. Usually she can correct herself after the wrong answer is given, but it can still leave an impression.
Though this can make her totally frustrating, really, she's quite sweet most of the time. If she notices, she'll help an old lady cross the street or with groceries, or catch a dog who's leash was let go of. The problem with this is the not noticing part. Marissa's very oblivious and often barely even notices where she's going, though she still does stick to sidewalks when walking around in New York. This can often lead to her bumping into people without realizing it, and sort-of apologizing while she's still walking away, unless she falls over. Then she kind of sits there, in shock, blinking, before methodically getting back up and walking away without a word. Her sweetness also dissolves when someone does something she doesn't like. She hold her pet peeves in high esteem, and if somoene does one of them, she'll probably snap at you and tell you what you're doing in a not-nice tone. If you stop immediately, then she'll return to being sweet almost instantly. But people almost always go back to doing annoying things, so she usually just repeats herself like she never said anything in the first place.
When she is unprovoked, she's usually very silly and likes to look at things in a disorderly way. She's a big fan of chaos, and if she can, she'll usually arrange certain things ni her way, which has lead her into a bit of trouble a few times. It helps that Daddy and Mother are both very well-off lawyers when she messes up things(though in all reality, she really does believe she's fixing them.) Though she's never been in actual prison, she has been held at a police station for vandalism. Not that she remembers those times very well, because she doesn't want to. Marissa pretty much does and remembers what she wants and doesn't think that's wrong.
past Marissa's parents went to law school together. Elora Masters wanted to be a DA/prosecutor while David Harley wanted to be a lawyer, so at first they butted heads. Eventually, though, Elora switched her perspective when she realized the public pressure on a district attourney, and she was never one for extremely high pressure. They both graduated near the top of their class, took the bar, then opened a firm together. Then they got married, Elora keeping her last name. It was a clear example of how both wanted to put their job before family, and neither had a problem with the other doing as such.
Marissa really wasn't supposed to happen, of course. They never wanted nor had the time for a baby. But her mother's pro-life views and her pro-life family made her go through with it. It just meant some time taken off from work, though she trusted David to handle it. When she was born, they gave her Elora's mother's middle name and David's mother's middle name: Marissa Madison. Elora took a about year off of work from the end of her third trimester until Marissa turned one. Then, she decided to only work part-time. David could handle most of the cases, she had no doubt.
It was almost obvious from the start that Marissa wasn;t quite normal. From the time she could talk/put up a fight, she was refusing to put on any matching clothing. By the time she was allowed to put on her own shoes, she put on two different ones. The dresses and tights she chose never matched. Eventually, Elora just gave up and let her wear whatever she wanted. She was tired and wasn't used to taking care of others, she was used to being taken care of, seeing as she was the youngest of her siblings.
When Marissa went into kindergarten, she was hooked on trolling and doing whatever she wanted. And what she wanted to do was give all the wrong answers, even though she knew the right ones. Luckily, she passed and was able to continue on through elementary and middle school just barely. Elora didn't know what was going on with her, but didn't know what to do about it either, and David was too preoccupied with work and a new female paralegal to worry about it.
In her junior year of high school, Marissa just... stopped going. Meaning she dropped out, and just stayed home while her mother worked. When she had started middle school, Elora had started working from a bit before to a bit after Marissa's school hours, so she got away with it for a little while, until the school called.
Needless to say, Marissa's mother was furious. But she didn't force her to go back to school, because she knew Marissa wouldn't do well. So instead, she got her her own apartment at Jacob's, and told her to fend for herself. She would have to handle everything except the rent. "See how long it takes for you to come crawling back here, you failure. We'll see who's crazy now."
Challenge accepted.
present Marissa isn't doing as horribly as her mother thought she would do, to be honest. She has a job, in fact. Granted, it's more of comission-type thing, and money comes and goes, but it's still money. She's kind of a hired artist, and can be comission to paint murals and people and things like that. Usually she can be found doing caricatures in the park. It's not a lot of money, but really it only has to go to food and clothes, so. Take that, Mother dearest! But while she likes to paint and draw, she sometimes likes to paint and draw on things she thinks needs to be painted and drawn on, which gets her in trouble with the law a few times, but her parents bail her out.
In her free time, which is more often than it should be, she kind of takes over a pavilion at Central Park and brings her grandmother's tea set her mother let her have and some tea on a little burner to keep in warm. And snacks, of course. Often times, she lets people come to her, so a few homeless have gotten in on it and gotten a free meal-type-thing. Though, she only likes it when they ask to sit down first. That's the polite thing to do. Though really, she'll be nice anyways, until they do something else wrong. But really, ask first. Even though she's oblivious, she can still tell that you sat down. Seriously.

likes
- Tea. Her favorite. She may as well be British, except she wants it to be teatime all the time. Sometimes she throws tea parties in Central Park and doesn't invite anyone until she's sitting there in her mismatched clothes, drinking out of a teacup.
- Nonsense. If it doesn't make sense, it makes total sense to her.
- Riddles, when asked by the right person.
- Mice. She hates when people get all eeky when mice come around. She'll be the one to beat away the brooms and care for the mouse, regardless of possible diseases. Also, rabbits.
- March. It's her favorite month (though if asked, she'll likely say October.)
- Chaos. She loves it. Looooves it. Like, she sees any type of visible order? Bam, ruined.
- 6:00
dislikes
- When people ask her for things, and then demand she give it to them.
- People who think they can just WALTZ RIIIGHT IN and do whatever they want.
- Staying in one place too long.
- Order. Well, order according to other people. Chaos is order to her.
- Simple questions. Mainly because she almost always gets them wrong, but whatever.
- Being told she's incorrect. No, you're incorrect.
- Clocks. No, she doesn't want to know what time it is, and the ticking makes her crazy.

book title Alice and Wonderland
backstory The March Hare is mad, plain and simple. Mad as a March hare, in fact. He's most famous for appearing at the Mad Tea Party, along with the Mad Hatter and the Dormouse. Both he and the Hatter believe it's always tea time thanks to the Hatter murdering the time with his singing to the Queen. (NICE GOING, NICHOLAS.) He also appears at the trial for the Knave of Hearts and as the personal messenger for the White King.
