...appearance*
hair color Brown. Sometimes she dyes it black or red, but really it just fades back to brown most of the time. She's not all that worried about what her shampoo/other hair products will do, just that they smell good to her.
eye color Brown/Hazel. She usually wears eye makeup, but nothing too heavy, most of the time.
build She's not two-dimensional, but in no way is she 'fat'. If you have anything to say about that, you can shove it. Thank you.
height 5'4".
clothing style Her clothing reflects her mood, very often, though she always tries to wear some sort of color, even when she's down. Color makes her very happy, almost as happy as flowers. She does tend to lean towards earth tones, though.
distinctive traits She always smells of flowers. If one had the nose for them, they would be able to tell that they are poisonous flowers. Also, she has a very large smile, that people often compare to a horse, but fuck you, she loves her smile.
...personal*
personality Callie isn't exactly the people-person, per say. Before she went to Baum, she was stuck at home alone when her father worked and her tutor/homeschooler had a day off, and so she didn't get to spend a lot of time around people to learn how to really get along with them. Though she is innocent enough when she accidentally does something that's not exactly normal, she still kind of gets made fun of for being a little odd. Thoguh she's doing a lot better now, she's still made fun of behind her back, but when she find's out about it or it's to her face, she really takes it to heart and often gets depressed. She's really trying to be careful and say and do normal things, but it often flops, and often times she feels this is a huge failure and that she may as well not try with people at all, and just stick to her plants. Her plants have always listened and never made fun of her. Wherever her plants are is home to her, and she feels most comfortable there. She talks to them, a lot, which can be seen as weird, but to her it's no different that someone talking to a pet or even a sibling.
While Callie isn't excelling in social skills, she is excelling in academics. She's very smart and maintains A's in all of her classes, though some are low and some are high. The higest being in her science classes, which is no surprise, considering who her father is and how her tutor admired him. Unlike her father, though, she doesn't want to shun society and love, and focus only on her studies. So she often denies the rumors that she knows a lot about the sciences and says she only keeps her flowers because they're pretty, just for the sake of being able to maintain her place in the social order of things at Baum Academy and not drop down any lower than she already is. Which, in all reality, she likely thinks she is lower than she actually is, because she takes a lot of playful jokes seriously and they hurt.
While she does like boys, she doesn't exactly follow the usual pattern of a sterotypical teenage girl, having a different crush each week and all that. No, usually, she has one crush for pretty much forever until he tells her off. Then, she gets extremely heartbroken and doesn't have another crush until weeks later, at the least. Boys sometimes like her back, and she has gone out with some before, but usually they get mildly sick and blame her after they get better, something she still doesn't understand completely. She knows that the plants she loves are poisonous but hasn't made that connection yet.
When she gets upset when people say mean things, usually she gets sad. But sometimes, sometimes, she gets mad and rages and screams, though she'll never hit anyone. In fact, she's usually a bit nervous about touching anyone, for reasons she doesn't really know. When the anger and rage occur, she can kind of come off as a total bitch and doesn't care what anyone says during her rage until later. Usually she apologizes much later, but her tantrums can lead to bad things because she doesn't really know what's she's saying.
past Patrick Gardner and Lena Salsman met in college and married soon after. Patrick was a biology/botany major and Lena was a sociology major. Though Patrick did love Lena at first, after graduation, he became absorbed in his science and often forgot Lena even existed. She was okay with that, though, because she had another thing to take care of, and that was her baby. When Patrick found out about the child, he did seem to let up a bit on his obsession but kept things from Lena and didn't allow her to go in the greenhouse anymore, which she was upset about because she loved plants. Nevertheless, she stayed with him and soon little Calanthe Belladonna was born, the middle name suggested by her father.
Callie was one of those children that, as soon as they could move, had to wander around and see what was going on. She could move up the stairs of their house shortly after she could walk and went everywhere. She was allowed to go in the greenhouse freely, though her mother was still shut out. Patrick loved Callie, though ignored Lena most of the time. Finally, Lena had enough of that and stormed into the greenhouse one day, letting out all her built-up anger on the plants Patrick cared so much about, while eight-year-old and homeschooled Callie watched in the corner, crying about how she loved the plants and asking why mommy was hurting them. Patrick was petrified and unable to stop Lena, merely gaze in shock and horror, and nod to Lena's demand to move away form the plants and 'The Garden State' altogether. So they packed up everything that wasn't plant life and moved to an apartment in New York City. Patrick Gardner only had his notes to go on, and it actually would have probably led to him paying more attention to his family, had Lena not gotten sick a week after her attack on the plants.
The doctors couldn't explain it, and Patrick refused to say anyhting about his research. He was a paranoid man and thought that someone would steal his work and claim it as their own. But while Lena got progressively worse, Patrick started researching an antidote to his wife's disease at a facility that he rented. Meanwhile, Callie stayed at the apartment with a hired tutor named Millicent. Lena stayed at the hospital until she died a month after the move to New York. Callie was devastated, but remained strong. Patrick was in denial about the whole thing, so Callie thinks, and continued to research and antidote when it was already too late. Nevertheless, his research helped when Millicent got sick, but she was very old and died a week after the slightly differnet symptoms first showed up. Eleven-year-old Callie didn't connect Millicent's illness with her mothers, and just blamed old age.
A lab assistant of her father's, Mary, became her tutor after that. Mary was very kind and loved what Patrick studied almost as much as she loved him, though he didn't acknowledge her like that. Mary agreed to be part of an experiment and was exposed to the plants Patrick had grown at the facility in small doses, eventually becoming immune, which was why she was chosen as Callie's new caretaker and teacher. Callie wasn't in the know about any of this, of course, and she never noticed that Mary put things into her food that wasn't exactly food. After three years of this, it was time for Callie to go to high school, something she never expected to be honored with. She was a little nervous, though it seemed Mary was far deeper into that state of mind and was trembling as she dropped Callie off at Frank L. Baum Academy, leaving after she and Callie were led to the dorm she would be living in alone, along with a few samples of pretty flowers Mary and her father let her have.
present Callie was rather awkward at school at first, having only been exposed to the ways of people by her mother talking about sociology and television and movies. Her people skills were not the greatest, but grew as she went through high school. After freshman year, she was doing just okay, though she didn't take it lightly when people made fun of her. Usually she would sob for a few hours, and be kind of down for a few weeks. even the littlest thing could set her off, and she often couldn't tell whether people were joking or not. It's lost her a few friendships, but that was okay after a while.
Callie has figured out the the plants she lives with are poisonous, and that they take special care to keep them pretty. She has never been able to keep a pet without them getting sick, so she has time to tend to them. Her whole dorm is filled with many different types of flowers, since her windowsill is too small and already filled. As per Mary's request, no one is allowed to visit her in her dorm, and she's okay with that, since it's like her own little space where no one can bother her. Also per Mary's request, she has to take a pill every morning, for allergies she didn't even know she had, apparently. Mary also said she couldn't kiss or do much more with any boys, which was a rather awkward conversation, but she has done the first part before. The boys got better, though, so.
Now in her junior year, Callie's doing pretty well with people, though she's still a little weird at times. She's also doing well with all of Mary's requests, apart from that one little bitty part of one of the rules. It's only been a few times! She's a teenage girl, of course she's gonna kiss a few guys! So what if they get sick afterwards... they get better, so whatever. Yeah. Also, she's recently been interested into going into music and joined the choir at the beginning of this year. It's just a small thing, but she does love music.

book title Rappaccini's Daughter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.
backstory the story if anyone is interested
So, basically, this story is about this dude named Giovanni way back in history, who goes to a university thing. There he meets the beautiful Beatrice, the daughter of a mad-ish scientist named Rappaccini, and falls in love with her at first sight. Which, as we all know, harldy ever works out. Anyways, problem is, Beatrice is stuck in the garden of very poisonous plants raised along with her by her father, because she herself is poisonous from being around said plants, which is evident from the dead bugs and lizards around her. Giovanni appears to give not a fuck, though, and visits her anyways, much to the dismay of Baglioni, a rival of Rappaccini and Giovanni's mentor, who had warned him that Beatrice would be poisonous and her father was not a cool dude. But whatever, they fall in love and what not, and Beatrice asks for Giovanni to look past her poison and love her for who she is. After that, Giovanni finds out that he himself is poisonous now, and visits Baglioni for help. He gives loverboy an antidote for Beatrice, saying that it will help them be together, but when Beatrice drinks it, she dies. Rappaccini's all upset and that jerkface Baglioni shouts, "Rappaccini! Rappaccini! And is this the upshot of your experiment?"
