personality
Charley has the social skills of a twig. Actually, the twig might be a bit better at taking social cues. She expresses her opinion without any filtering, and always assumes that she's right. Charley doesn't understand that other people have feelings, and that her opinions might not always be appreciated. She gets very confused when people call her a 'bitch', because she thinks that she was just telling the truth. This habit hasn't earned her many friends, but Charley has never minded that. Just as easily as people get offended by her facts, she doesn't get offended by their insults. People usually just spurt out vapid information that has little to do with the topic at hand, and more to do with Charley as a person. The fact that this comes up over and over again just confuses Charley even more, and she although she knows that she must be doing something wrong, she still doesn't really grasp what it is.
While she is completely composed when put in professional/academic/argument settings, Charley crumbles when she is put in situations where she has to act nice, or instances when she's trying to at least be socially acceptable. She gets extremely anxious, runs through all the things that could go wrong in her head, and tends to overanalyze and come to extreme conclusions over the most mundane social interactions. This leads to her usually eloquent and factual banter turning into a mumbling, almost incoherent mess. It doesn't help that when she thinks too hard, she tends to not focus on where she's going, and frequently trips over her own feet and walks into walls when put in an awkward situation.
Charley is smart, but not a genius. She does extremely well in school, but it's more due to the fact that she's a very hard worker rather than just pure intelligence. Charley puts everything into her work, and basically devotes her life to getting good grades. Her only other concerns are things that would make her successful later in life. Charley considers success strictly as going to Yale, becoming one of the top lawyers in the country, and having a steady but rewarding workload from that. Personal relationships aren't in that definition, so therefore are not a priority for her.
Considering she places such a high value on being professional, people always found it a bit odd that Charley is always late. It wasn't that she did it on purpose, she just always miscalculated how long things were going to take her, or forgot to account for the unexpected obstacle that sometimes comes up. Needless to say, her teachers got quite frustrated with her showing up to class late every day. It didn't help that Charley is known for pointing out when the teacher or a fellow student is, in her opinion, wrong.
Although Charley can be scatterbrained when it comes to timeliness, she can get very focused when given a task she's passionate about. Recently that task has been the Debate team, which has led her to know many random facts that she'll spit out any time something even remotely related to the fact is brought up.
past
Charlotte Katherine Harper was born on December 12, 1994 in New York City to two loving parents. She grew up in a small apartment in Brooklyn, but the space issue never bothered her. She loved the different cultures and feel of Brooklyn, the concrete jungle never seemed unwelcoming to her. She was often seen barging into the nearby Italian restaurant by herself and ordering the largest pasta dish, or begging the cook at the Chinese restaurant down the block to teach her how to make egg rolls. Her childhood was full of adventures and laughter, with her father out working on the stock exchange floors during the day and her mother always being the glue that held them together.
However, everything changed when her mother suddenly disappeared. Charley originally believed that her mother had just taken a vacation, but as time went on it became more and more apparent that her mother had really abandoned them, and wasn't coming back. Less than a month later, her father quickly moved them out of their home and into a large, extravagant apartment on the Upper East side of Manhattan that they couldn't afford. He quickly lost his zest for life that he was famous for, and soon became as stoic and solemn as the large marble columns that adorned their new home. With her father being gone the majority of the day, Charley took up the average household tasks. She did all the cooking and cleaning without so much as a 'thank you' from her father. She was always too afraid to ask how they could afford the monstrous, gaudy atrocity that was their new apartment but couldn't afford a maid.
However, even with her mother's disappearing act, she still couldn't give up the nickname her mother had bestowed upon her, 'Charley.' As unprofessional as it sounded, Charley could never seem to drop the nickname. The only person who called her by her full name was her father, and Charley constantly corrected him.
present
Charley's never been the one to deal with her father head on, so instead of confronting him she's started to wrap herself up in debate, researching for projects for hours on end. When she wasn't researching for a debate or doing housework, she was usually on her laptop watching House or any trivia game show. She enjoyed picking out all the things that were medically improbable in House, and although she'd never admit it, the show was entertaining. The trivia game shows were good background noise when she was doing a pointless reading assignment for school, and since she was always researching for debate she knew most of the answers.
She's also recently started to bite her lip or pick at her cuticles when she's nervous, which has led to her unsightly swollen fingers and cut-up lips. And she's become even more uptight and disagreeable than usual, if that was at all possible.

book title Cinderella
backstory So there was a girl named Cinderella. Her Stepmother and her daughters forced her to complete all the housework. The girl did it but was not happy about it, but she didn't tell her father because the stepmother was a controlling bitch. One day the Prince invited all the girls in the land to a ball so he could choose a wife. The stepsisters were really pumped about this, and so was Cinderella. However, the sisters teased her and said that a maid could never attend a ball. As the sisters went to the ball, Cinderella cried and was overall not too happy. Her Fairy Godmother magically appeared conveniently and vowed to assist Cinderella in attending the ball. The Godmother told her to enjoy the ball, but return before midnight for the spell would be broken. At the ball, the entire court loved Cinderella, especially the Prince, who never left her side. However, she lost track of time and left only at the final stroke of midnight, losing one of her glass slippers on the steps of the palace. The Prince chased her, but outside the palace, the guards had seen only a girl in rags leave. The Prince took the slipper and vowed to find and marry the girl to whom it belonged. Meanwhile, Cinderella kept the other slipper, which had not disappeared when the spell had broken for some reason. The Prince tried the slipper on all the women in the kingdom, because that was apparently the foolproof way to identify someone. When the Prince arrived at Cinderella's house, the Stepsisters tried to fit into the shoe, but it didn't fit. When Cinderella asked if she might try, the Stepsisters teased her. Of course, the slipper fit perfectly, and Cinderella produced the other slipper for good measure because she was prepared like that. And then they all lived happily ever after, the end.
