personality
More than anything, Evan Jackson is an enigma. He's always been that puzzling guy, the one no one knows how to crack. You can't put your finger on it, but there's something about Evan that's different. Honestly, the guy has never been society's best friend. He goes against the grain and goes about things in his own ways, even though people may take it wrongly. Born into a very wealthy family, Evan was expected to grow up to be some haughty lawyer like his father and his fathers before him. Evan was supposed to have a charming, sly personality; however, Evan didn't. Because his parents always cast him off to the Nanny so they could focus on his older brother Joey, Evan grew to distaste them and their whole society. That's where his negative feelings about people in general came about. His parents didn't care for him, so he didn't care for most people.
Most.
Evan really does care about some people: the underdogs. The losers, the people who are down on their luck and need a miracle. Evan's always felt a need to help the down-trodden...he just does it in a weird way. Evan lacks most social graces because he never was much a part of normal society as a kid. He befriends people and then usually does something to make them hate him. Let's say his friend Bob has a girlfriend who he suspects is cheating on him. Bob will tell Evan this, so automatically Evan has to help. Instead of, say, politely but firmly asking the girl about it, Evan would probably hire a male prostitute to try and seduce the girl while he video taped it. Evan finds that normal, but most people wouldn't understand. Because so many people have broken off all ties with him, Evan has become a generally glum personality. He's a bit serious and doesn't talk much, either.
One thing Evan loves most is making deals and bets. No, he's not a gambler. Evan would sooner be a dealer, actually. There's something about knowing all the odds and chances and seeing what people would do. Evan's like any pirate; just offer him a deal and he'll take it. He's very smart and witty, though. Evan's always been one to make sure all the odds are in his favor before doing something. It's infuriating to play chess with him; Evan always takes forever before making a move. His parents honestly thought he'd make a great lawyer, and he could with all the reasoning powers he has. You never expect it, either, when you first meet him. Evan gives off the persona of just an average guy, maybe a little quirky, a little quiet. Generally a good guy. For now, at least.
past
Joseph and Amelia Jackson were practically America's poster children. They were well-to-do, came from good Christian families and had just had their second child. Joseph was a serious man known for his cunning on the court floor and story telling at socials. Amelia was the perfect housewife; she dutifully had two boys, cooked apple pies on the weekends and loved her husband dearly. Evan, however, never really fit into this picture. His brother Joey was two when Evan came to be and at first, the two boys were best friends. They shared their toys and friends and played catch with Dad all the time. That was until grade school, though, when Joseph and Amelia made it clear they favored their first-born. Joey was thrown into football and lacrosse camps, tutors, and the right social circles. Evan was left behind.
For the next several years, Evan didn't make many friends. There was the Nanny, who took care of him, but she couldn't teach him how to play sports or even tutor him. Even though he begged, Evan's parents ignored their son's pleading. Most nights Evan sat alone in his room, glumly watching a video or reading a book. Joey was always out with friends, Joey was always having fun. Evan really detested his family, even at the early age of ten. The brothers made it through junior high without much of an issue.
Then high school begun.
When Evan got there, Joey was a junior. His brother was Mr. Popular: football captain, honors classes, not bad with the ladies. Evan didn't really fit in anywhere on the social ladder; he was smart, but not a nerd; athletic, but not a jock; friendly, but not a social floater. He was just...there. Evan went through the motions of high school while Joey, Mr. Golden Boy, partied all night. If his parents were more attentive, they would've noticed their son coming home reeking of alcohol every weekend and even some week nights. Maybe they did notice and turned a blind eye to it, Evan would never know. Someone should have stepped in, though, because on his eighteenth birthday, Joey got drunk and behind the wheel. He drove his Camaro straight into a tree after serving, the impact flinging him through the windsheild, killing him instantly. The Jacksons were devasted; even Evan was completely distraught, despite the brothers' falling out. Joseph and Amelia seemed to realize they had another son and threw Evan into everything Joey had been. Socials, tutors, all of that. Evan hated it. Because his parents we're so dead set on Evan going to law school, he chose the best option for him, the one that would piss his parents off: he joined the army.
present
Evan really enjoyed the army for the four years he served. He was helping America and doing it in a way a lot of people liked, for once. He traveled down to Fort Jackson in South Carolina forbadic training. It was hard, but Evan discovered he was built well for the military. After a year, Evan was deployed to Afghanistan. He was terrified at first, but learned the ropes quick enough. It was a life no one could have guessed he would be living. Evan even made a few friends. On his third tour, though, Evan realized it was time for a change. He didn't want to do this for the rest of his life and had an idea of what he wanted to do. One day, there was a small attack. Evan saw his friend Peter exposed and stepped in front of him, figuring it was the right thing to do. He had a gun, after all. A moment later, Evan took a bullet for his friend. He was shot in the shoulder. Evan was brought back and chose to leave the military and was honorably discharged with a purple heart.
After the military, Evan moved to New York City. He had always dreamt of visiting and now wanted to make it his own. Evan needed a job, though. With an idea and the money he had saved up, Evan began All Hope orphanage. Just walking through the city and seeing all the homeless children was convincing enough. The first year was hard; Evan didn't have much of a staff and not many children even came in. Over the nextthree years, though, the orphanage blossomed. Evan became known for taking great care of the children, making sure siblings stuck together and even checking up on all the kids that had been adopted to make sure they were being taken care of. His dream had took off, and he's happy to be livingit. All that's missing is a woman who'll understand him.
Evan and his parents talk maybe once a month; Joseph and Amelia wish they weren't estranged but Evan doesn't want much to do with them.

likes
- Helping others, even if he goes about it in rather odd ways
- Running the orphanage
- Deals
- Guessing games
- Animals. He's quite fond of dogs.
- Homecooked meals
dislikes
- People who are famous for being famous. Evan highly dislikes people who don't work for what they have and people like Paris Hilton fit perfectly into this category.
- Uninvolved parents. Evan makes sure to personally know all the potentail parents before they come to the orphanage so he can make sure they'll be good.
- Whenever someone guesses correctly
- Loud, obnoxious people. He doesn't mind kids being loud; they're innocent, harmless things. It's the ignorant and argogant jerks that Evan dislikes
- When people don't understand he's trying to help
other notes Evan operates an orphanage called "All Hope" and they take in both girls and boys, all ages up to seventeen. They're known for being particularly picky about potential adopters, but they have tons of success stories.
