personality
picky | neat | a tad obsessive compulsive
For some people, doing the same thing over and over again would eventually lead to them hating said activity. With Samantha Rae, it seems to be the opposite. Rather than despising cooking and cleaning, something she was forced to do in her childhood, she enjoys them both and finds that they help calm her down. For her, it’s like cleaning is a part of who she is. Samantha Rae wouldn’t be Samantha Rae if she didn’t clean and organize every day. It’s sure to drive anybody insane, the way she’s constantly straightening things (pencils or chairs). It would probably bother someone if they caught her scrubbing a spot clean – the same spot she’d been at half an hour ago. Samantha Rae finds nothing wrong with this. What could possibly be wrong about wanting things neat and sanitary? She has a few odd habits as well. She’s got to knock on the door frame three times before entering and exiting a room; she brushes her teeth for precisely three minutes and forty-two seconds; she runs her brush through her hair by thirty strokes. If anything goes wrong with these routines of hers, she grows very anxious until she’s done it correctly.
kind hearted | polite | giving
One cannot call Samantha Rae mean or disrespectful. They would have to go extremely out of their way to prove such things. She is an absolute sweetheart. In her eyes, there’s no such thing as villains and it would be impossible to find ‘revenge’ in her vocabulary. Samantha Rae says ‘please’ and ‘thank you;’ she holds the door open for others, and she always apologizes first, even if it wasn’t her fault. Working at an animal shelter was something she knew she wanted to try and it’s made her even more generous than before. Samantha Rae does all she can to homes for the dogs and cats. There have been instances where she very nearly adopted them for herself. Thankfully, her co-workers always talk her out of it. While she probably could handle a pet, it would only put more stress on her than necessary. Sometimes, Samantha Rae has to put up a front. There are days where she feels far from kind and mannerly; days where she just wants to curl up and cry. Those days are tough and it’s not until she’s safe in her dorm that she lets herself weep over whatever it is that’s bothering her.
easily frightened | trusting | innocent
It doesn’t take much to scare Samantha Rae. She doesn’t go around, making it obvious that she’s easy to scare. If she did that, there would people leaping out at her from bushes every hour. No, she’s very secretive about this and it’s only brought to light when one does in fact startle her (to near death, mind you). It’s one reason she stays so far away from woods – being lost is terrifying enough but to be lost in the woods? She’s determined to make sure it never happens. Despite all of this, Samantha Rae is surprisingly trusting. People she’s befriended only days earlier will have her complete trust. It just hurts that much more if they end up turning on her. She has yet to learn from it and it’s not very likely she will – at least not until it’s right in her face. There’s a lot she has yet to experience and it’s made her very childlike. She doesn’t understand a lot of things that go on in high school or in the real world. Her little bubble is one of happiness and purity. If things like drugs or sex are brought up, don’t expect her to understand.
past
Samantha Rae Knight was born on December 8th during a very cold evening. Sophia Ann was very ill before giving birth to her daughter and she fretted constantly over the health of her baby. Joseph was a strong man and he could always calm his wife when she grew near hysterics due to her worry. To Sophia Ann’s relief, their daughter was born the healthiest baby the Doctor had ever seen. Her reprieve didn’t last long. Sophia Ann died not shortly after giving birth to her daughter; she held the infant for a couple of hours before passing away.
Samantha Rae Knight was very well taken care of. Joseph was there for every bit of her life. He was patient while teaching her how to ride a bike and how to swim. He went to every spelling bee and every play. Joseph didn’t miss a thing. It was downright devious how Judith slid into their life. She was an elementary teacher and Joseph was smitten. They married on their one year anniversary. Samantha Rae thought the woman to be kind and very beautiful. Unfortunately, Judith cared not at all for her stepdaughter. If they were home alone, Samantha Rae was to do the cleaning and the cooking. It was a lot to ask of the child but she honestly didn’t mind; cleaning gave her peace of mind and cooking now would only help her sooner in life.
Samantha Rae Knight didn’t see much of her father for awhile. Being promoted kept Joseph at work very often; there were early meetings and late night sessions. Judith worked the same hours each day. Samantha Rae came home from school at 2:30. She was to finish her homework before getting to her own work. It was either cleaning the house which seemed to be eternally messy or tidying up the yard or playing with recipes in the kitchen. Judith either avoided the girl like the plague or tormented her endlessly with chores and demands. Samantha Rae was sometimes overwhelmed by it all but she thought it was like this with all children so she never spoke up.
Samantha Rae Knight was terrified to move. All her life, she’d lived in a tiny town with the same people day in and day out. New York City was large with too many people for her to count. Still, Samantha Rae was happy if her father was happy: and how could he not be? He was nearing the top of the corporate ladder. Still unbeknownst to father and daughter, Judith played the doting wife and stepmother; she did anything so long as she could get her well-manicured fingers on Joseph’s money. She continued to treat Samantha Rae poorly. As if that weren’t bad enough, Samantha Rae was quite beautiful for such a young girl. This did not sit well with Judith.
Samantha Rae Knight had an accident. She hadn’t meant to fall down the stairs. It was just that she couldn’t see passed the pile of laundry. It wasn’t Judith’s fault, she would insist, to which nobody would understand. Of course it wasn’t. Why ever would Judith trip up the poor girl? Precisely. From there on out, Samantha Rae was very quiet about the things Judith made her do. She finished her chores more quickly because her father was coming home earlier and earlier. Everything was done before her homework and sometimes she didn’t even have time for that. Joseph noticed and began spending more time at home, thinking it was his lack of presence in her life that was causing her trouble.
Samantha Rae Knight got better. Having her father around meant less cleaning, working, and cooking. It meant more trips to zoos, museums, and parks. For awhile, Samantha Rae was happy and lively. She made more friends at school now that she wasn’t so tired. Her grades improved and her teachers praised her work ethic. Judith had to play nice for a long while. It must’ve been that she was an elementary teacher; she was used to pretending. Samantha Rae hoped she would crack; she hoped her stepmother would give up. She felt terrible for hoping such things but she really just wanted to be free of the dreadful woman.
Samantha Rae Knight loved private school. Attending Baum Academy meant dorm life which meant no cleaning and cooking for her stepmother. It wasn’t just that, though, Heavens no! Samantha Rae was beyond excited for this chance; this chance to learn new things and meet new people. Her first two years were everything she expected them to be and more. They were delightful and there were even times where she wished she was at school during breaks and holidays. Samantha Rae called her father every night; the best conversations were the ones where she didn’t have to speak to her stepmother.
present
Samantha Rae Knight lives life to the fullest. It should be noted that Samantha Rae’s living life to the fullest definitely pales in comparison to others. They bungee jump and drive recklessly. She goes to a different coffee shop every Monday morning and orders something different each time. This, to her, is living life to its fullest. It’s a bit of a shame, really. All Samantha Rae needs is a friend who will take her out on wild crazy adventures.
Samantha Rae Knight excels in class while somehow managing to still work at the animal shelter for many hours a week. She’s that quiet girl sitting at the front of the room, taking notes when there aren’t any to be taken. She’s not entirely all about academics and plans for the future. She enjoys walks in the park and trips to Coney Island. She’s not afraid to approach a stranger – especially if they are out walking their dog.
Samantha Rae Knight at Baum Academy meant being away from her father (who she misses terribly) and her stepmother (who she wishes would just go away). She finds it easy to make friends but she manages to lose them just as quickly. Evidently, people don’t like when you constantly turn down going to see a movie or bowling because you have to clean. Of course, when she suggests mini golf, they always seem to be terribly busy.
family
Sophia Ann – deceased. There are few things Samantha Rae knows about her mother. All she has is a few photos and the stories her father has told her.
Joseph – very much alive. He’s climbing the corporate ladder and keeping the family well provided for. He remarried a year after his wife’s death. He’s still as much in love with Judith as he was when he met her.
Judith – quite the witch. She’s conniving and vindictive and very good at faking. She pretends to love Samantha Rae and Joseph; she pretends to be an affectionate stepmother and a doting wife when all that really matters to her is Joseph’s money.
likes
₀ Cleaning, organizing, neatness – it’s her go-to way to calm down after a stressful day.
₀ Animals of every kind – she works at an animal shelter. If it weren’t for her boss and co-workers stopping her, she would’ve adopted every animal by now.
₀ Anything to do with romance – she absolutely adores romance novels, movies, ideas, the whole shebang. She’s hoping one day her Prince will come and sweep her off her feet.
₀ Singing though she’s still learning – her voice is a work in progress but she enjoys her lessons and hopes to one day sing on stage.
₀ Late night conversations – they don’t happen often as she has a very strict sleep schedule but when they do, she very much likes being a part of them.
₀ Nice weather – the sunshine on her skin and the wind in her hair lift her mood like no other.
dislikes
• Apples, combs, lace – there’s something about them that make her uneasy. She refuses to eat apples, won’t use combs, and does her best to avoid any sort of lace.
• Getting lost – it’s scary no matter what but she especially hates getting lost in forests
• Messiness – oh, she absolutely can’t stand it. She’ll clean up somebody else’s mess if she has to. As long as things are clean, she’s happy.
• Being flirted with – it’s not that she hates it. It’s just that she’s never quite sure how to respond to it.
• Judith – she wishes she could get along with her stepmother but it proves to be quite difficult
• Sad endings – she very much believes everything should end happily and tends to be sorely disappointed if a movie or book doesn’t finish that way.

book title Little Snow-White
backstory There is a Queen who wants a child white as snow, red as blood, and black as a window frame and she gets just that. The Queen dies giving birth to the girl who is named little Snow White. The king remarries a beautiful yet proud woman. She asks her magic mirror quite often who the fairest in the land is. Unfortunately, seven year old Snow White ends up more beautiful than the Queen and that just won’t do. The huntsman the Queen sends to kill Snow White pities the poor girl and she runs away. She comes across a neat cottage that has seven of everything. The dwarves that live there strike a deal with her: she can stay as long as she cleans and cooks and sews for them.
When the Queen discovers Snow White is still alive, she sets out to kill the girl. It takes two tries (first using lace to choke her and second using a poisonous comb) before the Queen is successful. It’s the poisonous half of an apple that finally does Snow White in. The dwarves make her a nice glass coffin and set her atop a mountain. A prince comes along and wants to take her home with him. The dwarves are hesitant but give in. On the way to the prince’s castle, the coffin is jostled and the apple that was lodged in Snow White’s throat comes out and she wakes up. They get married and the witch is put in iron hot shoes, made to dance until she falls down dead.

How the house managed to be in need of cleaning every single day was beside her. Even at eleven years old, Samantha Rae knew that the kitchen floors shouldn’t need constant mopping. She wasn’t… complaining exactly. She didn’t mind all the cleaning. It was just that she didn’t understand. The gardening wasn’t so bad. She liked watering the flowers and picking the fruits and veggies. It was nice being able to make meals out of fresh food; fruit salad, especially.
Her father thought it was Judith making dinner every night. Samantha Rae loved when her father was home. It meant she didn’t have to do her usual chores: dishes, laundry, sweeping, etc etc. Unfortunately, he seemed to work late quite often. She didn’t want to blame him – she was happy that he was doing so well at work. It was always nice, though, when he surprised them by coming home on time (or even early). It was always nice when he was home. Everything was perfect.
When they moved to New York, everything felt different for awhile. Her father did his best to come home at the same time every night. Not only did Joseph think his lack of time with his daughter was the reason for her bad grades, but he wanted to spend more time with his wife. (Yuck, Samantha Rae thought. She refused to even call Judith her stepmother). Still, as long as he was home, she was happy. New York was so different from North Carolina and there were so many people. It was entirely overwhelming.
Baum Academy was nice. The dorms were nice, the classrooms were nice, and the people were nice. Samantha Rae loved her teachers and the counselors. They were polite and helpful. There was one that Samantha Rae didn’t particularly care for; this one thought her habits were something that needed fixing. There was nothing wrong with the ways she did some things, thank you very much. Her roommates throughout the years found her to be rather annoying. She was always organizing things, even going so far as to tidy up their side of the room.
Samantha Rae wanted to be out and about more during her junior year. All she’s done so far is work less and hang around outside more. It’s really something she needs to work on. However, she’s thinking of joining a club or two. It would mean less time for the schedule she works so hard to stick to but that’s the whole point, isn’t it? Photography always seemed fun. Besides, that wouldn’t interfere too terribly with her activities. Walks in the park would just be walks in the park… with picture taking!
