personality
Paige Adams is a quiet girl. Ever since moving to New York and meeting the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, Paige has drawn in on herself, withdrawing from society. Her mindset is that because she must judge others constantly, she has to be able to blend in and truly observe. It really stems from her responsibilites as the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come; deciding whether someone should continue to live or if they were unworthy of their life has made its toll on Paige. Now she's developed a bit of an emotional void--to block out the grief and depression that weighs against her mind everyday, Paige choses to not feel at all. Whether it be love, joy, compassion, Paige doesn't want any part of it.
Paige is judgemental. Not in the bitchy, "I'm better than you" way; Paige judges on how you've lived your life. All her years of slipping under the radar in orphanages has taught her many sluething skills which Paige uses to learn about your life. She really means good, not to be creepy. In the end, she wants to see if someone has truly learned how to appreciate life and be grateful for what they have. If you have, then Paige regards you highly. If not, then, if Paige happens to have a vision about you...well, you better learn quick.
Inside of Paige's closed-off exterior is frightened little girl. What she's become--harsh and negative--scares her everyday. She wishes she could go back to before her parents died, before she was placed in the orphanage and shuffled all about New York. While Paige seems perfectly fine with being solitary, she secretly hates it. Most nights (when she's not out fulfilling her Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come duties), Paige cries herself to sleep because she knows that she's alone and she'll never be able to be with someone because she has such a hard outer shell.
past
Life used to be perfect.
Paige was born in Maui, Hawaii, to two amazing parents. Percy was a professional surfer and Elise was an animal trainer at a local aquarium. As a little girl, she was always running around, marveling in the always present sun and discovering the joy of the ocean. At the age of five, Percy plopped his daughter on a mini surfboard and let her learn. He believed that if Paige was meant to surf, it would come naturally to her, and naturally it did come. It took a few tries, but soon enough, Paige was out surfing all the little waves, working up the muscle memory to perfect her talent. When she was ten, Paige was entering contests and winning them. Life was a never-ending summer vacation; Paige was always happy and her energy never ceased.
Everything changed that winter.
Paige could've done something. She could've stopped her parents, said something ahead of time. If only she had forseen their plane crashing! She should've demanded that they stay home with her, fake the flu! But Paige couldn't see their plane crashing and she was perfectly healthy. Mr. and Mrs. Adams were flying to California to visit a sick family member, and because Paige didn't want to miss a surfing tournament, they set Paige up to stay with a friend.
The sky was clear and nothing was on the radar that would cause any trouble. The pilots, however, were drunk as skunks. While flying over the Pacific, the bastards lost control of the plane and it crashed, trapping everyone beneath the water. Everyone on board panicked, trying to open the doors and get out, but it was too late. Those who didn't die from the impact suffocated shortly after.
When Paige recieved the call, her world seemed to stop. The ten year old went on a rampage against herself: she kicked the walls, clawed herself, broke her arm, and finally passed out from grief. When she woke up in the hospital, she saw a tall figure looming in the corner of the dark room. He had a tattered, hooded cloak on, and his presence seemed to bring a frosty chill into the room. Paige had never seen snow before, but she felt it against her skin and was able to identify it. "Who are you?" She called out. The thing didn't talk out loud, but in her mind. "I'm the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, and you are me reincarnated. The death of your parents have allowed you to grow a relationship with death, to give you an appreciation for your life. From now on, you will carry out my duties in determining who gets to live, and who gets to die. Be wise, young Paige, and don't think with a clouded heart." And with that, the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come disolved into a mist and glided across the room, flowing into Paige's body. The child lay there, stunned, not knowing what to think. She had to decided if someone lived or died...she couldn't do that! She was just a child! Crying, Paige let the sweet release of sleep take over.
---
A few years had passed, and Paige had been sent to New York after each line of her relatives passed her on. They didn't want the girl, who had long lost the healthy glow of Hawaiin sun to a pasty pallor and whose once bright eyes had become dull and hatefull. When the state realized she didn't have another relative to be passed on to, Paige was placed in an orphanage. At fourteen, the adults who ran the orphanage knew outlook was bad for a teenager, let alone one who was so sullen and gaunt. Paige spent six months there, only leaving to go to a shitty public school, when finally a family chose her. The Harveys, at first, seemed kind and caring, but then their true colors showed. For the next three years, Paige was used as a slave. She had to take care of the house and cook every day, leaving no time for her to go to school. The Harveys had a son, a year older than Paige, who liked to use her as well. Whenever the manwhore had an urge, he used Paige to fill it. At fifteen, she had lost her virginity and had a pregnancy scare. Then, three months later, she turned out to truly be pregnant. The Harveys were pissed. Mark Harvey, the father, beat Paige silly, then took her to a clinic to have the thing aborted immediately.
That's when her visions started. She saw the baby, who would've been a girl named Ellie, reaching milestones. First word, steps, elementary school, high school graduation. And then Paige saw her being killed by an obsessive ex-boyfriend. In emotional agony, she tried to get Mr. Harvey to let her keep the baby, please don't let the baby die, but he wouldn't listen. When the nurse anounced that the pregnancy had been terminated, Paige cracked. On the way home, she didn't say a word, but revelled in the visions that surged into her mind. Mr. Harvey being in a car accident. Mrs. Harvey being electrocuited. Kevin Harvey slipping on the icy street and cracking his head open. Later that night, Paige felt Ghost's presence before she saw him. "You have forseen the deaths of your family. Do you wish for your visions to come true? Think wisely." Paige didn't waste a pretty little minute debating. She had their lives in her hands and she wanted to crush them. Ghost became aware of this and said, "So let it be.", before vanishing. Paige went through the sleeping house, stole the stack of cash the Harveys had acruxed over the years (that was thankfully undocumented), a few things of food, and left.
present
Paige didn't have a job or a high school degree, but she did have a fat stack of cash and it wasn't hard for her to find some shady buisness dealers who could make fake papers. She got a license and a degree and used some of the money to pay rent for a small apartment. Paige wandered around New York, fulfilling her Ghost of Christmas Past duties and getting a good feel for the city. She knew that she needed a job, and decided to play up her ironic side by getting a bachelors degree and becoming a pathologist's assistant. Working in a morgue surronded by dead people is, for most, apalling, but Paige has long had her emotions shut off to the world. Someone's gotta do the job.
You're now most likely to find Paige snooping around the streets, though you're lucky if you find her at all. She doesn't like to socialize and prefers to go unseen. Not a day goes by when she doesn't think of what Ellie could have been if the stupid bastard Harvey hadn't forced her to give up the one thing that could have saved her from a spiral of depression and cruelty.

- Children being abused. Paige'll go vigilante on your ass
- Having the spotlight focused on her. Ugh.
other notes Paige sees visions of possible futures all related to deaths. She must then determine if the person values their life enough to live, or if they deserve death. Most of the time her decisions hold true; however, sometimes other fates are at work and save the person or sentence them to death.

book title A Christmas Carol
backstory The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, A.K.A., The Ghost of Christmas Future, is a fictional character in English novelist Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. It is the ghost that haunts the miser Ebenezer Scrooge, in order to prompt him to adopt a more caring attitude in life and avoid the horrid afterlife of Marley. Scrooge finds the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come the most fearsome of the spirits; he appears to Scrooge as a figure entirely muffled in a black hooded robe, except for a single gaunt hand with which he points. Although the character never speaks in the story, Scrooge understands him, usually through assumptions from his previous experiences and rhetorical questions. The Ghost's general appearance suggests that he may be associated with the Grim Reaper. The Ghost's muteness and undefined features (being always covered by his robe) may also have been intended to represent the uncertainty of the future. He is notable that even in satires and parodies of the tale, this spirit nonetheless retains his original look.
