...appearance*
physical... Silas has short brown hair and brown eyes. He is rather strong and sturdy (some may call it stocky), due to the various sports he enjoys. He’s 5’7”, not very tall, but he remains a little intimidating.
clothing style... He wears whatever he likes. He likes jeans and sweatpants. He isn’t very impressed by shirts with witty sayings. Anything that looks put together, but simultaneously lazy.
defining traits... Silas has thick, dark eyebrows. Pair this with his signature smirk and you have quite a shady image before you. His smile is enough to make anyone suspicious. He has his left ear pierced, as well as his tongue.[/blockquote]
...personal info*
personality... Assume, for a moment, that the Humoral Theory is our basis for a personality type. Silas would fall into the Choleric temperament.
Aggressive: inclined to behave in an actively hostile fashion.
Silas has always been loud and assertive. As a young child, his temper tantrums were the worst in the family and would usually end with him getting his way. As he grew, he didn’t play nicely with other children. He was selfish and sometimes mean-spirited. Often he started (and finished) fights. Silas has the most detentions out of all his brothers. He is extremely hot-tempered.
Ambitious: having a strong desire for success, achievement, power, money, etc.
Having two older brothers and one younger brother, there wasn’t much that he could do to set himself apart. He excelled in sports, but so did his brothers. He was never good in school, where his brothers usually worked hard. He wants to be on top, and becomes frustrated when things don’t go the way he plans.
Charismatic: having personal magnetism or charm.
He was always well liked, despite his tendency to bully other children. He was funny and liked to joke around in class, pull pranks and have fun. He was a natural leader, and could manipulate his classmates with ease.
Dominant: exercising the most influence or control.
Silas loved being in control. He liked the feeling of influencing someone else. Being in charge is one of his very favorite things. This both helped and hurt his ability to lead. He could quickly take charge of a class project and do well, but he usually ended up bossing others around and doing very little of the work himself.
Energetic: possessing, exerting, or displaying energy.
Silas has Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Combined Type. His ability to sit still is virtually nonexistent, except when there’s something in it for him. He makes careless mistakes on homework and in daily life. Silas is incredibly impulsive as well, and has trouble with patience. He is currently medicated, and takes the psychostimulant Adderall to keep focus in school. He tends to abuse the medication.
Passionate: capable of having or being dominated by powerful emotions, wrathful by temperament, amorous or lustful.
Silas is very intense about a lot of things. When he does well, his mood improves and he’s very friendly and optimistic. He is fiercely loyal and will go to any lengths to defend or help a friend. This can be problematic, as he occasionally gets into trouble for illegal activity.
When he does not do well, or someone else doesn’t do well, he becomes frustrated and angry, often lashing out. He has a temper that can be set off at nearly any moment. He tends to hold a grudge and won’t let it go for anything.
life until now... Silas Benjamin was born to Matthew and Roxanne Schmidt, two junior high teachers, on August 16th, 1994. He had two brothers already, seven year old Isaac Matthew and four year old Christopher Paul. Being the baby of the family didn’t last long, as his parents had another son when Silas was one, Adler Jeremiah. It was clear from the start that Silas was bound to be a handful. The child was loud and boisterous. Hoping to dispel some of the rowdy behavior, Matt and Roxy signed Silas up for sports the moment it became available to him. As per usual for kids those days, that meant gymnastics. It helped, and Silas loved it. His dad coached the junior high gymnastics team and let Silas stay to watch. Around third grade, however, his classmates began to tease him mercilessly. He was a bit short for his age, he got into trouble in class and on top of everything, he did gymnastics, which they found to be “a girl’s sport.” Upset, Silas quit gymnastics and soon joined the local baseball team with his brothers.
When fourth grade rolled around, he made his first real friend, Tyler. Where Silas was outgoing and hot-tempered, Tyler was shy and rational. The two complimented each other and passive Tyler soon became both Silas’ best friend and victim. Silas played too rough and was quick to criticize, but Tyler was easy to manipulate. By the eighth grade, Silas and Tyler were inseparable, even earning the nickname “Sy and Ty.” Then they had to part, and attend different high schools. The two kept in touch religiously; Tyler still did Silas’ homework, Silas still beat up Tyler’s bullies. They planned to go away to college together, until the unspeakable happened.
Snow had fallen suddenly in the middle of December, and Matthew Schmidt called for his sons to help shovel the driveway. Adler was off in his own world, his headset for the xbox crammed onto his head. Sixteen year old Silas groaned loudly. He didn’t want to go out and help. Matthew heard the complaints and sighed, then went out the door to begin shoveling. Minutes later, Matthew Schmidt suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed. He was dead before paramedics arrived. In a state of anger and denial, Silas tried to go after the ambulance, but Adler held him back. He fought his brother off, finally giving him a black eye, and ran down the street. He ran until he fell on his knees in the snowy street. After several minutes of angry yells, beating the ground with his fists and trying to wake himself up from this nightmare, he was dragged to his feet by Tyler. A few seconds and Silas began sobbing into his friend’s chest. Tyler held him patiently and when he was finished, he brought him home. After that, Silas refused to talk about the incident. He did not shed any more tears, even at his father’s funeral.
A boy who had previously been full of laughter suddenly turned cold. His jokes turned to snide comments and insults, while his temper flared more violently than before. Tyler soon was accepted to a fancy boarding school in NYC and Silas was left alone, worsening the situation. After a semester of working his butt off and tutors, Silas was able to raise his grades enough to be accepted at Baum Academy.
the present... Silas is now in accepted to the school that is halfway through a semester and since he’s just dropped in, he’s pretty much homeless. Tyler’s been a pal and let him stay in his dorm for the time being. Silas would have waited until the fall semester, but he wanted to get out of town so badly. He couldn’t stay at home anymore. Since his two oldest brothers are off at other universities, it was up to him and Adler to comfort their mom and keep the family going. Adler was much more equipped than Silas, who was no help at all, with his rebellion and violent temper.
He’s been trying to find a job, but hasn’t had any luck yet. Once he graduates from high school, he wants to get an apartment near campus. He won’t go home unless he absolutely has to. Tyler cares about him, but he really is exasperated that Silas is unable to open up. He's unable to stop clinging to Tyler and be his own person because of everything that's happened.
other notes... Some of his favorite things:
Music (Lil Wayne, Tech N9ne, Immortal Technique, Flo Rida, Tyga, Lil Jon, Cat Daddy, Snoop Dogg, etc.)
Piercings (he wants more of them, and a tattoo)
Being in charge
Sports (baseball, basketball, wrestling and track)
Weaponry (he has an uncanny talent for throwing knives with accuracy, and is pretty good with a gun too)
Pretty girls (duh, teenage boy) [/blockquote]
...literature*
title... Romeo and Juliet
backstory... Tybalt enters to help his servants, Sampson and Gregory, who are fighting in the streets with servants of the Montagues, Abraham and Balthasar. Seeing Benvolio (Romeo's best friend and cousin) trying to stop the fight, Tybalt draws his sword to fight Benvolio. Not much comes of it.
Later, at the Capulets' ball, he is the first one to recognize Romeo through his disguise, and would kill him if not forbidden by his uncle, Capulet. His lust for revenge unsated, Tybalt sends a challenge letter to Romeo for a duel to the death. He enters looking for Romeo, only to create tensions with Mercutio, who was mocking him even before he entered the scene. Tybalt initially ignores Mercutio and confronts Romeo, who refuses to fight because of his marriage to Juliet. Tybalt becomes even angrier; he does not know that Romeo cannot fight him because they are now relatives.
Mercutio loses his temper and begins fighting Tybalt himself. Romeo tries to stop the combat by rushing between them; Tybalt then stabs Mercutio under Romeo's arm. Mercutio dies. Enraged, Romeo duels and kills Tybalt in return, leading to his own exile by the prince.
