Dangerous; Shark is as sketchy as his nickname. If there's something illegal within a ten mile radius, you can bet he'll find it. He delights in adrenaline and influential substances. Tequila is his friend.
Shallow; He's a very aesthetic-oriented person. If something looks good, it's probably good. He's a bit spoiled, but not to the point that Rey is.
Tough; He gets in fights frequently, whether they stem from Rey, racial slurs or just the after effects of some particularly strong drink. He's not a very chummy person. He doesn't get all sensitive. Sure, he'll pretend, just for the girl he's trying to get in the sack, but he won't share anything too personal.
Alluring; He can be intimidating, but he is magnetic in the way that his sister is. People are drawn to him, particularly girls, which is all the better. He likes to lure in the ladies, but gets bored quickly and looks for the next girl. His somewhat dark nature is strangely part of what makes him so appealing. Every girl wants a dark, brooding guy that she can "fix".
Playful; Depending on his company, Shark can be extremely energetic and funny. He likes being around others, he likes competition and he likes to laugh. Pranks are always a good time, and he likes to crack jokes, usually at the expense of others.

Ernesto Otero met Clory Escoria when he was fifteen years old. Clory’s parents didn’t have the money to support her, so they tried to put her in a convent, so she would be safe and well. Ernesto quickly fell in love with the girl and begged her parents not to send her away. They were married two years later, in a tiny Catholic church, just outside of Santa Rosalia, Mexico.
Ernesto worked hard in the factories in the city, just to get by. Before the year was up, the pair had a little boy, who they named Acilino. Ernesto worked himself up at his job and before long, they had another son, Toro. A year passed and the couple was blessed with twins, a boy and a girl. The girl was first and she was her father’s princess. She was named Lareina. Her brother came a painful thirty minutes after her. They weren’t certain he would make it, but he pulled through and they named him Mariano for his strength. Only a year later, Ines was born. Three more children and another pair of twins made them a family of twelve.
One might think it a burden, but Clory and Ernesto were the proudest parents in Santa Rosalia. Acilino excelled in his academics. Toro was the best football player on his team. Lareina and Mariano’s singing voices could leave even the strongest of men in tears. Ines had a tender heart, and cared for all the children. Mora and Lola painted spectacular pieces that both the locals and tourists loved. Charro had a gift with animals and he tamed horses and stray dogs in the area. Naolin and Nita were the babies of the family and easily the funniest.
When Lareina and Mariano were twelve, their parents told the family that they were moving to America. Excitedly, everyone packed up their things and they moved to the busy New York suburbs.

Ernesto is now managing a factory in the city and Clory is finally free to start working. Some of the family liked the bustling of the city life. Others missed their lives back in Mexico. As soon as he turned 18, Toro left and went back, presumably to Santa Rosalia. The family hasn’t heard from him since he left. Acilino is studying at Yale and the other siblings are doing well in various public schools in the area.
Mariano is not a fan of the city like his sister. Like his nickname (Shark), he has a strong love of the ocean. THIS is NOT the ocean. Not that polluted scummy liquid that licks around the edge of the piers. He misses the waves from the Gulf of California and the warm waters. He also misses his brother, Toro, who he was closest with. The bastard could have waited one more year, and Shark would have gone back with him..
