Mariano Tiburon Otero was not one you wanted to anger. And right now, he was pretty goddamn pissed off. It was all Rey's fault. And Toro's.
For a year, Rey had begged their parents to send her to that private school, Baum. They had given in, but with a catch. Mariano was to attend with her. As if he wanted to be here. They had dropped him off at his dorm and that was the end of it. His father even told him he could end up enjoying this place.
Yeah right. He missed public school. He missed smoking in the bathrooms with his friends and harassing the freshmen. He missed the parties and the variety of people. When he had walked onto Baum's campus, he felt as if he were being watched. What? Was he the first Latino to walk on it since they landscaped? All he saw was white. Sure, there was a variety of brunettes, redheads and even the occasional blonde. But he hadn't seen anyone like himself. That both pleased and frustrated him.
God, he wanted to go back home. Not to the stupid house in the suburbs of the city. He wanted to go back to Santa Rosalia. Mexico. His only real home. He belonged there. Not here. Not this place where it snowed in the winter and the people screamed at each other in traffic. Not this place where the water was polluted enough to make him want to be sick. Never would this be his home.
And Toro had left him here all alone. How dare he!? His brother, a year older than himself, his role model, had left the house in the dead of night and run home to Mexico. Mariano had tried to follow, but his parents had caught him before he could get ten miles.
Now here he was. This stupid, fancy, snobby private school. Aiming to put as much distance between Rey and him as possible, he walked off on the campus. And came upon the auditorium. It was empty and silent. His footsteps echoed into the seats. Mariano stood on the stage, staring out into the invisible audience. He looked at the ceiling, wondering about the acoustics. Perhaps he'd test it.
He opened his mouth and began to sing quietly. His voice became louder and stronger as it rang through the room. Mariano never shone so bright elsewhere as he did onstage. The sound of his voice had brought old men and women to tears back in their little church in Santa Rosalia.
When he sang, his anger melted away. It was a stress relief of sorts. Mariano finished, breathing deeply, listening to the echo of his voice throughout the theater. Song: Mientes ~ Camila

It was hard for Hazel Grace to stay in one place at any time. She hated being at home, alone, in a big empty loft. Her parents were never there, and even when they were it's not as if they noticed her. The only reason she was even still living there and not on campus was because it was so close, there was no reason. Often times, when she was alone in the apartment for too long, she'd walk the two blocks to the school campus and wander around, looking for anyone to interact with. It was one of those times when her skin was itching, and she was clutching her little sheep necklace in her palm and she just couldn't get her feet to walk fast enough. Hazel Grace watched her feet as she passed by a few people on the sidewalk, not wanting to make eye contact with anyone just yet. She let her mind focus solely on the scuffing of her white sneakers against the pavement as she walked the too familiar route to the school campus. She kept the sheep charm on her necklace between her fingers as she tried to walk as fast as possible without seeming conspicuous. She was getting into one of those moods where she felt as if she was going to begin sobbing at any moment if someone didn't strike up a conversation. It wasn't something she could even help anymore, since she was awakened. She hated being alone, and when she was, she couldn't help but let out a sad bleat and lose the tears she held back. Finally making it onto the campus, Hazel Grace looked up and breathed a small sigh of relief. There were a few students walking around, probably headed to their dorms, maybe to a party, or the library. Hazel Grace smiled, giving a small wave to a classmate as she passed by, and a wink to a small freshman she had caught staring at her. She giggled and kept on her way, though, not sure where her feet were headed, but glad she'd had some human interaction. She shuffled along, tugging at her necklace with one hand, and the end of her hair with the other. Before long she found herself at the doors of the auditorium, and her ears caught a faint singing. Being the curious person she was, Hazel Grace snuck in quietly, slipping into one of the furthermost seats from the stage. She watched the boy on stage, practically entranced by his voice. She couldn't tell a word he was saying, mostly because her lack of knowledge in the foreign language world, but she smiled anyway because the passion in his voice made her try to understand anyway. As he finished singing, she couldn't help but stand from her seat and applaud, smiling and biting her lip. She kept clapping as she slowly made her way up the center aisle, still smiling at the boy long after her hands had stopped moving. "That was beautiful," she commented as she reached the first row of seats "You have a very unique voice."

Mariano's head snapped up at the sound of a single pair of hands clapping. His face was curled into a sneer and a dark snarl emitted from his throat quietly. He had thought he was alone and it was rather unnerving to find that he had been spied upon.
A girl approached him from the center aisle. She had a sheet of shiny red hair and she was beaming. He raised his eyebrow at her, a small smirk on his lips.
"Gracias. But, I have to ask. What the hell are you doing here?"
As if he had more of a right to be here than she did. His voice wasn't rude, exactly. More teasing. Besides the tone, it was dark and deep, almost always giving people the suspicion that there was a sinister meaning behind his words.
"I mean.. Isn't it a little weird to sit in silence in the back of the room, watching someone who obviously thinks they're alone?"
His smirk grew into a little grin but held on to its arrogant nature. If Mariano was guilty of anything (and oh, there were many to pick from) it was his smug attitude. He was not humble in any way. Self-possessed until the end. Did he think he was the best, coolest, most devilishly handsome mothafucka in the world? Oh yes. It wasn't questioned.
Mariano looked at the girl, flashing her a somewhat dangerous smile, holding out his hand in an offering for her to join him onstage.
"Besides, that isn't all. If you came to see a show, you could have just asked."

Hazel Grace couldn't help but blush slightly when he spoke. His voice was deep, and dark, and she liked that. It was very different from her own squeaky tone. She laughed softly, shrugging her shoulders before answering "I was wandering about, couldn't help myself." she bit her lip, glancing up at him through her eyelashes. Hazel Grace wasn't the most flirty girl in the world, but she knew what she was doing most of the time. She tugged on the end of her hair, smiling at this gorgeous boy who had a gorgeous voice and she blushed a light shade of pink just at the thought that he was even talking to her. She was Hazel Grace Waters, the awkward ginger girl who just wanted to be loved and liked. She wasn't anything special, if anything she was the kind of girl he should be blowing off. Her automatic reaction when she noticed his hand was to take it, pulling herself up on the stage. She giggled softly at his comment about watching a show, her cheeks flushing a darker pink than before "Well, I didn't want to be right off rude, I suppose..." she batted her eyelashes, chewing on her bottom lip once more and letting her eyes drift away from his face for a moment and out towards the empty auditorium.

Mariano's grin stretched deviously. Aw, that's cute. She was being flirty. This girl didn't give off any impression of having been bad once in her life. And he found that incredibly interesting. There was so much he could teach this pretty little ginger.
"Well, I'm Shark. New here."
He threw her a smile, winking. She was so easy to trap and woo. He wondered if she would be scared by his intensity. He wasn't exactly known for going easy on anyone in any field. Mariano never played by the rules.
He stepped away from her, rapping smoothly, having been listening to the same songs for years with his brother. He was strangely flexible in his music and as he rapped and danced, he wore a grin that would have terrified a nun.
"I coulda chose another life with the feds try'na get me Little kids putting work in like at Gap and Disney In the whip high as shit like Bobby and Whitney Grab your hand and push the mother fuckin' pedal to sixty Harlem cops frisk me to get me to make their quotas But I told ya "Siempre hay que separar las drogas" Bar brawl in the club popping and rocking georsh Shot it out leaving bullet holes the size of matzu balls I love big chicks never fucked with a slim broad Played soccer and hammered nails into their shin guards Gambled at cee lo with Dominicans locked in the tombs We was there for robbing niggas for them Spanish doubloons Remember Goonie era graffiti of all sorts Now they wanna foreclose on the hood to build a golf course I'll put your hand in a blender to make an entree Then cut your dick and glue it back on the wrong way
All ma revolutionary soldiers better ride My word is mathematics bitch numbers never lie So even if they tell you I'm dead I'm still alive Because mother fucker Goonies never die Witness protection program rappers better hide I serve revenge out the freezer niggas never slide So if they tell you I'm gone and you safe niggas lied Because mother fucker Goonies never die" Goonies Never Die ~ Immortal Technique

Hazel watched as he smiled at her, winking and stepping back to rap smoothly. Her bright blue eyes widened and her head tilted to the side, much like a puppy. She was completely intrigued that he could be so versatile and just...good at it. Her mouth opened just slightly as she watched his movements, and she could feel a school girl crush starting to form. It wasn't something she could help at this point because she was too far in and he was a bad boy and what would make her cooler than being seen with a guy like that. She let her mind drift a little, imagining all the movies she'd seen. The shy, nerdy, sweet girl who just happens to fall for the local bad boy. Her takes her in and completely turns her around into the total opposite of before. Goodbye awkward, quiet, and nerdy; hello hot, popular, and smooth. She goes from absolute nobody to a hot commodity any guy would want as his arm candy. Hazel would be the little red headed girl all the guys at Baum would kill to be with, and all the girls would kill to be. She'd wear cool clothes and smoke on campus and wear red lipstick... Hazel snapped out of her daze as the song ended, her eyes still glazed over dreamily as she cleared her throat, straightening her head and standing up taller, only to cock her hip out awkwardly and bit her lip, going back into flirty mode. " So, you're new? What grade are you in?" she flashed a semi-innocent smile with a hint of a smirk. " I'm a junior." Hazel could only hope that he wasn't a freshman or something, but he didn't look it. If anything, he was at least in her grade, or a senior. Maybe he was even a college guy prowling around for an innocent highschool girl to corrupt. Hazel squealed and bleated happily in her head. She was going total teenage girl mode right now, but she was not about to show it, because that would just ruin her facade...and no one wanted that.

She was attempting to flirt and be extremely cool while doing so. That was.... kinda sad. But mostly funny. Mariano tried to stamp back his grin.
"I'm a junior as well," he told her, stepping closer. He had never been one to respect personal boundaries and this girl was no exception. Surveying her with hard, focused eyes, he thought to himself. This girl was in need of some serious leadership. All he did was sing a song and she was trying not to show how much she was into him already. Ah, the fun he could have with her. All the illegal things he could teach her..
Mariano reached out and took a lock of her hair between his fingers, observing it.
"You have got.." he took some in the other hand too, pulling it away from her face gently, "a LOT of red, RED hair.."
His face split into a particularly mischievous grin. You know what they say about gingers..
"You got a name, Pelirrojo?"

Needless to say, Hazel wasn't the brightest bulb in the box, but she knew what flirting looked like. She could feel his smirk and his eyes and just everything and it was making her skin crawl...in a good way. She couldn't help but smile and giggle as he touched her hair, her cheeks doing that flushy pink thing again. She nodded in response to his question, looking up at him through her eyelashes. "There is a lot of it" she smiled, looking at her hair. It was the one thing she was really proud of. When he asked for her name, though, her face dropped just slightly. Should she say Hazel, or Hazel Grace? Hazel Grace sounded more sophisticated, but did it sound popular? She chewed on her lip for a moment, thinking about the pros and cons of each name (and yes, there were plenty of them.) After a moment of hesitation, she finally smiled "Hazel Grace," she said softly, "Hazel Grace Waters, at your service, love." She didn't mean to add the 'love' part, it was just her inner Londoner slipping out from the developmental years she spent there.

There was no hiding the blush on her cheeks. He smiled.
"Hazel Grace, huh?"
It sounded funny on his lips. His years of speaking all Spanish and very little English made the pronunciation confusing and a little clumsy. He couldn't have that. Mariano would never allow himself to be made a fool of. Frequently, the person causing this mishap was bloody soon after. He wasn't fond of playing fair.
"Well, no offense to your name, but I like Pelirrojo."
He stuffed his hands into the pockets of his shorts and watched her, still within her personal bubble. She was small and slight. Pale. Freckled. Undeniably ginger. Big blue eyes. Innocent to the point where he would classify it as an actual crime not to corrupt her.
"So. You're obviously wandering campus, looking for some entertainment. Did you have something else you needed to do? Or do you want to come with me and cause some trouble?"
His dark eyes sparkled with mischief. Brushing her hair over he shoulder, his voice became a tempting purr.
"We can have all sorts of fun.."

Hazel ducked her head slightly, biting her lip as she shoved one hand in her back pocket and the other tugged on her sheep necklace. She glanced up at him through her eyelashes and a curtain of hair, waiting until her blush had subsided some before lifting her head to look at him again. "Well, if I had other plans, they're certainly canceled now." she giggled softly, ducking her head slightly again. She was so glad to have a friend, no less a boy friend, she couldn't help but be a little giddy. However, Hazel attempted to keep her cool, only letting her blush give away her elation. She held her head high, twisting around on the balls of her feet as she shoved both her hands deep in the back pockets of her jeans. She tried to look as normal as possible, not wanting to come off as innocent and sheepish as she really was on the inside.

Mariano's impish smile grew as she carefully avoided his eyes. Her cheeks were tinted a deep shade of rosy pink. She used her hair as a screen and when she seemed to compose herself, the girl looked up at him, a light giggle on her lips.
Charm was something that Mariano prided himself on. And girls were such simple creatures. It wasn't difficult to persuade them to do anything. Play the bad-boy-with-a-sensitive-side-that-only-she-could-see card. Get into trouble, convince her to try things she'd never done, get her into trouble a bit, confess to something, or tell her a secret, give her a reason to believe that she's special. And she'd never know it was just a ruse until it was all over. She'd cry to her friends, they'd comfort her, despite still stealing looks at him, maybe there would be a big brother or a father threatening to kick his ass for hurting her. It was standard. And regardless of the fact that he was well accustomed to this game, Mariano enjoyed playing. People were idiots, and the way he saw it, he was educating them.
"So, Pelirrojo," he tapped the soft skin under her jaw gently, lifting her face. His eyes glittered devilishly, holding out his darkly tanned hand to her.
"I'll show you where the fun is."
If she took his hand it was a done deal. She'd fall just as easily as any other girl. And she was cute, so he'd keep her on his arm, let them be seen around school, until he got bored of her. If she came with him, but didn't take his hand, she would be just a little harder to play with. But he always loved a challenge. If she was very intelligent and a good judge of character, she would back away from him, scowl and leave, probably with a few unkind words that wouldn't phase him in the slightest. Whatever she chose, he was ready.
