...appearance*
physical... At a first glance, Eliza might cause some eyes to become stuck on her. She is quite the lovely thing, though she's typically much to busy to notice she's gained admirerers. Her hair varies from nearly jet black, to a soft auburn, depending on how much time she's spent outside. Typically, the sun will lighten her hair during the warmer seasons, and darken during the colder.
She's slender, without being too skinny. There's meat to her bones, and she falls at a rather average height. Her jaw is strong, and her strong brows set a stern look. Eliza has mastered the piercing stare, which is quite difficult for brown eyes to do, as they tend to look warmer by nature.
Eliza often has books, or her laptop cradled in her arms. Her chin is always up, and she has a prideful walk, completely comfortable in who she is. When not fixing someone with a cold stare, there is often a crinkle of a smile set at the corners of her eyes.
clothing style... For the most part, Eliza wears whatever is comfortable. You won't often see her in high-heels, but she may wear some dresses, on occasion jeans. She usually wears blouses, preferring them over t-shirts. However, if she is in a t-shirt, it's pretty easy to assume that Eliza is not in the best of moods.
defining traits... Eliza is not a very "defined" girl, however there is something to be said with the way she looks at people. Scrutinizing, mostly. Taking in their every movement, and every word. First appearances mean quite a lot to her, and she rarely forgets a detail.[/blockquote]
...personal info*
personality... When Eliza Benjamin walks into a room, she demands attention. Not verbally though, but she has just that air about her. She's a woman who knows what she wants, and she's going to get it. Where her mother falls under a Stepford Wife category--she falls into the feminism. She is just as good as any of these corporate big-wigs, and even though she is constantly reminded that it's a man's world--she's gonna seize it by the balls and own it.
There are no feminine wiles to her--she gets what she wants from honest hard work. She doesn't like the pushy sort--especially from men. Eliza feels that if a man for her exists--he will come when he is supposed to. He will be a proper gentleman, and show that chilvalry is not dead. He will respect her choices, and in turn--she will respect his. But for now she simply doesn't have the time for silly games that her mother and younger sister play.
Eliza may seem all-business to those on the outside, but those closest to her know quite a different Eliza. She's funny, and humorus. Able to find laughter in even some of the most desolate times, and even though it tends to frustrate her family--they have a hard time not cracking a smile at Eliza's charming wit. Though funny, even having a capacity for silliness, Eliza hopes people think highly of her. She prefers to stay silly behind closed doors, and be strong willed and firm on the outside.
Eliza believes herself to be a wonderful judge of character (truthfully, she's quite dreadful at it), and thinks that first impressions reveal more about someone than most people believe. She is rarely ever wrong (so she thinks), and will go to great lengths to prove it. Even if it makes her seem a bit ridiculous. The young woman doesn't like being wrong--if she says the sky is purple, she will fight you about it until her dying breath. She has a bit of trouble admitting she's wrong; often justifying herself with meaningless things. Though--when Eliza Benjamin admits she's wrong, it's something to be remembered.
life until now... Eliza was born as the oldest of two sisters in Hertfordshire, England. Lindsay was born just three short years later, and unlike most siblings--the two got on quite well. Fights were minimal, and Eliza often kept her eyes out for her baby sister. They were interested in different things--Lindsay was more into boys, and Eliza was more into fufilling her dreams. But even so, Lindsay always had a caretaker in Eliza.
When the girls were old enough to go to school, it seemed like their mother was already looking for husbands. It was...intolerable to say the least. It only went to drive the sisters closer together, and they often mocked their mother in private.
Mrs. Benjamin didn't grow up with an easy life, it was a decent struggle within her life to keep afloat and take care of her family. That was until one Mr. Benjamin came about, and swept her off her feet. A decent businessman, Mr. Benjamin was able to provide for his new wife, and his children. So, in order for her daughters to have an even better life than what they have now, Mrs. Benjamin strives to push her daughters into finding the most wealthy matches that they can possibly manage.
Lindsay seems fond of the idea, Eliza not so much. The more years that Mrs. Benjamin tried to pound this into Eliza's head, the more Eliza seemed to rebel. She didn't want to be the perfect trophy wife, sitting on the arm of some scumbag who couldn't remember her last name. Nor did she want to be surrounded by material possessions that were utterly meaningless. Instead, Eliza decided that she would earn her own wealth, and make her own name for herself. Without a man.
Well, surely this sent Mrs. Benjamin on a complete course to meltdown.
the present... Ohh, and it sure did. Every boyfriend that Eliza had never lasted long; the relationships often ending after her mother simply MENTIONED the 'm' word. At weddings, Eliza refused to dance. She refused to adjust herself perfectly like so, and she utterly refused to flirt the way her mother instructed.
It became a game, for a little while. It was funny; they would deal with their mom shennanigans, then at home in the middle of the night--the sisters would reinact the whole day, adding their own commentary to their poor, dear mother's reactions. It seemed to be a normal life in the Benjamin home.
Until one day, Eliza's friend mentioned a school overseas in New York. A college that offered a state of the arts business program. It was perfect for what Eliza needed--she would need to build her own business. She would need a formal education. And most of all, she would need to get out of the United Kingdom as quickly as she could. Soon, she would be out of school--and sure enough, once that happened--Mrs. Benjamin would not relent until she had married off her oldest daughter.
Many letters later, an acception letter to Barrie University of New York City came in the mail, and within the same day Eliza was packing her things to take off for the airport. With hasty goodbyes, she flew her way to the Americas, ready to start a new life.
Things were different here, refreshing. New York was a metropolis of different things, and she liked it. It set a new goal of determination into her mind, and without her mother's pushy hands--Eliza would be able to focus on herself and her own career.

...literature*
title... Pride and Prejudice
backstory... So basically, Lizzy is this totally swanky chick who's actually got a personality. I bet she was the first feminist, idk. Either way, she was totally into being her own person, I mean. I don't think she was opposed to chivalry, but unlike her Mumsy--men weren't the most important thing ever. I think Lizzy was up to love when it was the right time. Unfortunately, Mr. Dickhead Darcy decided to turn his nose up at her, and basically step on her shiny new poor-girl shoes. Which made Lizzy hate the shit out of him. But naturally, since she wasn't THROWING herself upon his Ahem...mantower, he fell for her. Which I'm pretty sure she found equal parts hilarious, and equal parts WTF. So, yeha. She basically does some other crazy shit involving her family and realizes that she should be less of a reading-the-book-by-the-cover person, and that Fitzwilliam Dickhead Darcy isn't quite as much of a twatwaffle as he seems to be. And Mr. Dickhead learns that he should be less of an arse, or Elizabeth Bennet will tell him what he's good for.
