personality
FOCUSED;; One could almost call it obsessive. Once she sets her tasks on a goal, she will do anything to achieve it. It stems from her commitment to gymnastics from an early age, and has since carried over into her studies, social life, and even her cosplaying, yielding quite the results, even if not by the most morally sound means. One could call her ruthless, as she is far more inclined to take the cutthroat way out of a difficult situation rather than the more honest way.
NERDY;; What do you expect? Though she looks far from the stereotypical geek, Mercy has devoted her life to all things nerd. It started out innocuous enough, with her devotion to Harry Potter; but the moment she was allowed to dress up as Narcissa Malfoy for the 5th book premiere, things quickly spiraled out of control. For the most part, she really truly enjoys her nerdliness. She watches Doctor Who religiously, will argue with you that Empire was leagues better than Jedi, and will best you in Magic: The Gathering, shortly before helping you roll a character for the new Pathfinder D&D campaign she roped you into. She's very into it if you have proven your nerdy worth, however, she does try to keep this aspect of herself under wraps, especially when around a potential suitor.
ROMANTIC;; She dreams of having it all. The love of a man, the dream wedding, the father of her kids, the provider. She loves the idea of love. She wants corny pick-up lines, and flowers and chocolate. She wants grandiose displays of public affection, simply because. You could do anything to the poor girl, and if you were to call her a pet name, or gently tell her you love her, she'd nearly instantly forgive you. It's not necessarily a flaw, she thinks, but a good quality. She thinks that the world could use a few more silly love songs, and she's happy to provide.
past
Felix Fererra had it all. A handsome young man that came from a family of wealth, by the time he was 26 he was living the dream. He had the looks, the money, the home, the fancy car. He had a degree from a prestigeous cooking school, since cooking was his passion, and he wanted all of his dreams to come true. Shortly after opening his own restaurant to mild success, he only had one dream left to fulfill, and it had been one he had let fall by the wayside.
Quinn Rosenburg was a beautiful flower. Two years Felix's junior, she had caught the eye of nearly everyone at Poughkeepsie High School. She was vain, and focused on her beauty, nothing else. She never dated, she never went beneath the bleachers, or allowed someone the pleasure of feeling her up back behind the gym where all the cool kids went to smoke. Felix coveted her, figured if he gave it enough time, that Quinn Rosenburg would be his.
He waited. He graduated, knowing that due to his family and her family being in the upper-crust, they would meet again at stuffy country club functions that their parents would force them to go to. He would write her parents, telling them of his interest, and not to tell her because 'she would be won when the time was right.' They thought it was both sweet, and smart, and so when Quinn decided to focus of winning Miss Dutchess County, they hardly pushed her to have a social life outside her pageantry.
After winning the crown, Quinn was bored, decided that she could have much better luck as a model than a beauty queen, models got paid more, and were having much more glamorous lives. Meanwhile, Felix was waiting, patiently. 6 long years passed, and he thought he might finally have his chance. As predicted, there were social functions, and Felix was home from college, having trained under the world's best chefs, and generally taking all the attention. Quinn sniffed haughtily across the room, jealous that nobody was asking her how her career was doing. To be fair, it wasn't doing well. Beautiful though she was, she was simply too curvy, too short, too All-American to model seriously, and she was running out of time at age 24. Worried about her future, jealously hating Felix Fererra for being more successful than she, Quinn drank heavily into night.
She awoke in the morning, head pounding and plagued with the feeling that something awful had happened the night before. Her mother filled her in when she finally came down for breakfast. Apparently, she had started in on Felix, calling him a self-centered prick who only got what he wanted in life because he was a rich white male. She made wild accusations, calling him a homosexual, a coke-head, any manner of things in front of everybody. Following her tirade, her body decided that it suddenly didn't enjoy the vodka tonics and glasses of champagne, and promptly expelled them, all over Felix's shoes.
Rather mortified at this point, Quinn wanted to hear no more, and slunk upstairs to get cleaned up. She needed a walk to clear her head, and maybe she would go see Felix and apologize for her drunken indiscretions. Maybe.
However, when she got downstairs, hair teased and shoulder pads firmly in place, Felix was already waiting for her. Apparently, after she threw up on him, he had taken her to the bathroom to get cleaned up. She had then confessed her attraction to him, before promptly passing out. A true gentleman, he had taken her home and put her safely to bed, telling nobody what she had said.
It was strange though, Quinn couldn't remember ever finding anyone attractive. She had always been so vain, so self-absorbed, that she hadn't had the time to look at anyone else. Of course, now that she knew that drunk Quinn thought so, sober Quinn was forced to see Felix Fererra in a new light.
Their courtship was a quick one, with Quinn realizing that Felix could make her successful and wealthy without her ever having to lift a finger for any reason. They were married within the year, Quinn's failed modeling career behind her, her bright future with her new husband ahead. However, there was an issue. Quinn had decided long ago that she hadn't wanted children. She did everything she could to keep the subject off of Felix's lips, and went into a rage when he outright asked for a child.
Felix allowed this for a time, and built them a happy, comfortable life, starting a successful retaurant chain, securing for them a beautiful home, and generally treating his wife like the princess he had always thought she was. Meanwhile, he was fully aware that his wife was sneaking birth control pills. He simply switched them with placebos, and waited patiently for the results to take effect.
Two months after her 30th birthday, Quinn Fererra was looking at a postitive pregnancy test, weeping openly. She had hoped she would be spared from the curse of pregnancy, the curse of children. She hadn't understood how it had happened, but in her mind, God apparently wanted her to have this child, so she gritted her teeth through the remaining seven months, and prepared herself for motherhood.
When the child was born, Quinn was suddenly overtaken with an emotion she hadn't expected. She looked into the baby girl's wide blue eyes, her perfect mixture of her own face and Felix's, and was suddenly overcome with a strange mix of Protectiveness and Jealousy. Felix named the child Mercedes, while Quinn sized up the newborn wailing in her arms.
As Mercy grew, Quinn's worst fears were recognized. The child would be more beautiful than she ever was, and she would never appreciate it in full. They would spoil her with Barbies of all kinds, and princess themed things, but she would whine for action figures and comic books. She wanted to read, she was excited for school, and wanted nothing to do with makeup, or dressing up pretty, or any of that. Quinn had attempted to put her in a child's pageant once, and never attempted it again after the tantrum that ensued.
Quinn never stopped trying though, trying to gain her second chance, trying hard to live vicariously through her beautiful daughter. She put Mercedes through gymnastics training, knowing she would grow to be lithe and flexible, with a petite figure most women would kill for. Eventually, Mercedes got tired of the rigorous competitions, and the outright bitchy girls, and asked instead if she could switch to ballet. It wasn't a difficult switch, and Mercedes took to it instantly.
As she reached high school, Quinn found a spot of hope in her daughter's fate. Though Mercy was still obsessive over her childish things, she was suddenly asking her mother about how to put on eyeliner, and how to make boys notice her. She was dressing more provocatively, and instead of being horrified like Felix was, Quinn was overjoyed. She instantly started in on teaching Mercedes 'The Hunt.' The way to capture and ensnare a man worth having, as Quinn had mistakenly come to the conclusion that the only way to ensure success was through finding a successful husband.
Mercedes bored with the lessons, deciding that she would find love when she wanted to, with whoever, be it a billionaire, or a beggar on the street. Instead, she found her mothers hunting tactics to have a better use: sniffing out marks.
present
She had never intended to become a thief, but after getting into the prestigious Baum academy, she desired to live alone. After all, she was nearly eighteen, it was her senior year, she wanted her independence. It wasn't like her father was leaving her destitute, but her mother had forced her to grow up with expensive tastes; not to mention once you start, kleptomania is a difficult habit to break.
She used her mother's extensive training on how to find wealthy bachelors, and she hunted. She broke into homes and stole money, jewels, whatever she could find of value. She's not been caught yet, her cat-burgling skills only getting better with time. After a year of this, she can case a targets home and ransack it, finding the most valuable items in just under 48 hours of selecting a victim. Most of the time, they won't notice something is gone for at least a few years, she estimates. She is thorough, and she is remorseless. But she is also lonely. As much as she likes being her own boss, she can't help but feel as though she needs to follow someone. She needs to have someone on top of her, guiding her. She doesn't want to be a petty criminal forever. And of course, Mercedes has not been too keen to find out that diamonds may be a girls best friend, but that's only if you have someone to receive them from.

likes
Conventions.
- - - All the wonderful like-minded people milling about, all so friendly and welcoming. People hounding her for pictures or autographs, friendships forged. Cons are one of the only places that Mercy truly ever relaxes, and one of her favorite past times.
The Hunt.
- - - She is forever using her mother's tactics to find, not only her next victim of theft, but for The One. Sifting through the masses of New York's Male population is tedious at times, but she enjoys it. It's as though she's chasing something. She knows it's coming, and she'll be prepared for it.
Dancing.
- - - It's a wonderful way to relax and clear one's mind. Not to mention the way it keeps her metabolism up, and keeps her graceful. Some people complain about the pain, but she actually has a soft spot in her heart for pain. Pain is beauty. Beauty is success. Pain is success.
The Thrill Of Theft.
- - - The first time she stole, it was out of curiosity. To see if she could do it. This man, this 'new money' was arrogantly waving his arrears around, as though it would succeed in getting himself laid. She wanted to take him down a peg, and hey, she could use some new Jimmy Choo's. Of course, once she had completed her mission, did she realize how fun it was. Her heart thundering in her ears, her fingers shaking but sure as she cracked the code on the safe. Escaping into the night with her quarry. She knew she was hooked.
Exotic Animals.
- - - On a particularly nice day, one can find Mercy at the Zoo, staring at all the animals. She's usually drawn to the tiger cages, and she's not quite sure why.
dislikes
School.
- - - Particularly English, Mercy just has issues with certain subjects. She's a strategical genius, but ask her to write an essay with proper syntax and grammar, and she just stares frustratedly at her F. Not to mention, Dr. Allingham totally has it out for her, okay?
False Assumptions and Assholes.
- - - When people assume that she is a vapid cheerleader, or that she only goes to cons for attention. Furthermore, when they assume that she can't play video games, or that only boys read comic books. The worst though, is when she goes to a midnight premiere of something, be it a new video game, or the latest comic book movie, and she gets glares from people. It's usually insecure girls, upset with her for making them look bad. She is disgusted by them.
Small Flaws in Things.
- - - Back before she was a thief, Mercy loved Catwoman. She was her favorite anti-hero, and possibly her favorite character in comic books. She refused to cosplay her because she wasn't able to do her justice. It was a serious devotion, but then she started stealing things. And suddenly, she started noticing flaws. How was Selina Kyle not caught? That was implausible. She's leaving behind too much evidence! NO YOU CANT RELY ON YOUR FEMININE WILES EVERY TIME, SELINA STOP THAT SHIT. Soon, her problem with the little things overthrew her enjoyment of the big things.
Her Single Status.
- - - Sure, she's had a few boyfriends, but they didn't get her. They wanted in her pants, and nothing more. She wants more. She wants someone who will love her, and understand her. Someone she doesn't have to hide herself from. Someone she can trust with her secrets.
People Who Are WAY Too Vocal.
- - - Hey, are you an atheist? Cool. That's your belief system, and that's okay. Are you a conservative Republican? Alright, that's fine too. Are you a vegan? Not a problem. What is a problem, however, is when you are one of these things and WON'T SHUT UP ABOUT IT. YOU DONT NEED TO CHANGE SOMEONE ELSE'S BELIEFS. YOU JUST NEED TO ACCEPT THAT YOUR VALUES ARE DIFFERENT THAN YOURS.
other notes LOOK I KNOW ITS JUMPY BUT TRUST ME, SHE'LL BE AN AWESOME CHARACTER, OKAY

book title The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
backstory Sebastian Moran is not in an awful lot of Stories, but in the few that he is in, he makes quite the name for himself. Described as 'The Second most dangerous man in London,' he loses the top spot only to Jim Moriarty. Jim Moriarty totally respects this, and has Sebby go and become his...well...every-goddamned-thing. Bodyguard, personal assassin, Chief-of-Staff, Second In Command; you name it, Jim has made Seb do it. He's intelligent, and a skilled hunter, a war veteran, and clever enough to escape arrest a couple times. Basically, he's the closest thing Jim has to a friend, which makes him pretty badass in his own right.
