...appearance*
physical... Joey's small, she's....very small. 4'11", and that hasn't changed for a good long while. Unfortunately, she gets a few dirty looks every now and then. Half of her head is a vibrant orange, the other half is a bubblegum pink, with the bangs cut a little too short. She's back to her loud colors, though she's a little more fond of pink and skirts as of late.
But that's not what causes the dirty looks--it's more than likely because of the small child she carries with her. On the outside, Joey looks like a high school reject who got knocked up and has no sense of responsibility. But since Ariel came into her life--Joey's managed to go back to normal--or as normal as she was.
Either way, Joey is quite a sight. And between her little make-over, a random success, and Ariel---she feels like she can take on the world. And that radiates through her skin.
clothing style...
Joey's never really managed to grasp the concept of color. The likes bold colors, not many prints, and the cuter and sillier it is, the more she likes it. She has managed to not be so...hateful towards skirts and dresses, but she often has a pair of shorts underneath.
Her clothes are a little more refined now--something about being a mother changes your outlook on things quite a bit. And though she's earned the right to dress how she likes, there are times where she pulls it together a little bit more, and manages to not look like quite such a mess.
defining traits... Joey is pretty defining as a whole. A lot of change happened in a very little amount of time. She seems like she's back to her old self, however there's something more polished. It's hard for people to put their finger on it, but even though her loud colors are back, there's something that's...different now. And that definitely draws a bit of attention.[/blockquote]
...personal info*
personality... Joey's gone through some stuff, and for a while, she was afraid. Afraid that she might be stuck in this dark rut, like the colors got sucked out of her world.
But now, she seems to be back to her old self. Hyper, and playful--Joey is once more Joey. She's always willing to talk to someone and make new friends, however she's somewhat more unapproachable when she has Ariel with her, for the simple fact that she now has someone else to look out for.
She doesn't quite wear her emotions on her sleeve anymore, and has learned a bit of tact. When she's angry, it's a little more frigid. You might not quite realize that she's as angry as she is until later. And when she's happy, nothing can stop her.
When you are claimed as Joey's friend, you tend to have a friend for the rest of your life. She doesn't have a relationship with her parents, especially after Ariel was born--so her friends are the family that she chooses. And she doesn't take that lightly.
life until now... How far back do you want to go? Her childhood...was alright, for the most part. Her dad wasn't present, and her mom was a bit of a control freak. Unfortunately, Joey managed to get sick of it and escaped with a scholarship to Baum University for her senior year, finally sick of the homeschooling.
She graduated from Baum, and then transferred to Barrie. Where she met Jamie. And that...was the turning point in her life. Everything from then on spiraled out of control. The first day they met, Jamie had gotten hospitalized. She was there for him through thick and thin, and after a short time...her and Jamie got up to a little frickle frackle.
And then things REALLY overflowed. A few months later, she realized she was pregnant. And for a good long while, she kept it a secret. Unfortunately, Jamie found out. But they still weren't together, and that to an extent---tore her up inside. She became easily depressed, and sort of isolated herself from the world. The few friends she had accumulated were forgotten. Finally, when it became too much---Joey fled.
Using the stacked up check that her father would send to her (trying to be a good father, she presumed), she went to Buffalo, NY. Where just a few weeks later, gave birth to Ariel Jaymie Rooks. Buffalo...was a nice, quiet little town. She managed to stay with a sweet older couple, living in the flat above them. They helped her with Ariel, and Joey soon began to view Edith and Benjamin like the parents she never really had.
In order to pay the bills, Joey took up waitressing at a local bar, while Edie and Benny watched the baby. One day, when the bar was closing, and there was only one table left with a person and some papers--Joey began to sing. Sing while she bussed the tables, and swept the floor. And when Joey sings, she tends to lose herself into it.
The man with the papers just happened to be scouting for some talent at the live bar, and immediately showed an interest in Joey's talent. He came back to the bar a few times after that, before finally approaching the firey redhead.
They spoke for hours after the bar had closed, and Joey saw this as a chance. A chance she didn't think she would have. And though the industry was scummy, this man seemed to care enough. With a sweet goodbye to Edie and Benny, the scout--Karlton, paid for Joey's move back to New York. Where it would be much easier for her to begin her career.
the present...
Currently in the stages of putting together her first album, Joey's back in New York, New York. Though it's hard work having to write the songs and get to the recording booth, it has allowed her to spend more time with Ariel, who's now about seven months old.
There is one single out on the radio, played late at night with the rest of the indie songs. And as where she may not be living the dream, her savings as well as the small pinch of cash coming in has allowed her and Ariel to live comfortably, and be able to spoil themselves a bit. For once in her life, things seem to be going right.
Back in the only place she felt was home--things have a funny way of happening. Someone might think that New York City was a big place, with too many people. But certain people have a way of coming through, and making themselves seen. And though the idea fills Joey with a bit of dread---she feels like she can take on any obstacle that comes her way.
other notes... anything about your character that doesn’t fit anywhere else? [/blockquote]
...literature*
title... Winnie The Pooh
backstory... So Roo is Kanga's son, (ming you Kanga is an overbearing mother), and Roo is often getting into trouble with the rest of the gang. So, he kind of tries to sneak away from his mother, being the little shit he is. Luckily, his mama is one smart marsupial, and manages to catch on to his little shitheaded shenanigans. TL;DR. Roo's a hyper little troublemaking shit.
