When Estella Raeanne Hines had been picked to be a part of the assembly team, she could hardly believe it.
On the one hand, she was just a sophomore. A sophomore with bad grades and an attitude, but a sophomore with first place ribbons and her name already in Baum’s sports history. On the other hand, she was also well known for talking and never shutting up. What better person to make announcements than somebody who loved talking? They’d given her a packet full of rules and dress code and a script for her first stint. She was initially just made to make morning announcements, and she’d had to been told time and time again to speak not so fast. Once she’d gotten that down, they’d almost immediately asked her to join them at the assemblies.
As a student, she hated them. While they got her out of class, she was just sitting there, still listening to people talk about things she didn’t care about. Sure, she got to stand up with a number of teams while the school cheered and applauded them. Sure, she’d been voted to play one of those dumb games because she was fast. Sure, she’d won and made some friends out of it. But it was still sitting in one spot for at least an hour. Being a part of it, though? Getting to decide what they talked about and how they talked about it? Helping to choose what dumb games they played? It was… it was being a part of something, and she never passed up on being a part of something.
She’d noticed that they tended to pick two people from each grade, a boy and a girl, to represent their year. They were never paired up, though. It was entirely random, and that had made her a bit nervous. When she’d been told her partner was a boy named Jackson Hirsch, she’d near fainted. While Stella would never admit it, she liked to keep tabs on the ‘popular groups’ of Baum Academy. Like the Davenports. And, in Jackson’s case, the ‘superbros.’ They consisted of Jackson Hirsch, Dan Kaplan, Ozzie Wagers, Chandler Antrim, and Mikey Colbert (who was actually at Barrie now). And, no, she was not a weirdo for liking to know what they were up to!!!
Since working with him at a couple of assemblies, Stella liked to assume they were pretty good friends. While it was a bummer that he’d be graduating soon, she was glad to get to know him while she could. They had ridiculous nicknames for each other, and she got a glimpse into the life of the ‘superbros,’ and she was allowed to make fun of his love life, and it was awesome. Completely totally awesome. Today, they were supposed to write their script for the next assembly, regarding recent sports accomplishments. Arriving at his dorm, she knocked only a couple of times before barging in like Stella could be trusted to do.
“Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaackson. Jackie.” She shot double pistols at him from across the room, clicking her tongue. “The Jacksonator. …” Ooooh, no. “Nope, that one sucks. Don’t ever let me say it again.” Without an ounce of respect, she dropped onto his roommate’s bed. “Are you ready to write this thing?” She waved the papers in the air before setting them down beside her. “I’d be just as good with playing video games, to be honest.” What? Just because Stella was really glad to be a part of something didn’t mean she was suddenly into working during her free time.
notes: so this is a thing i wrote and i assumed a lot and if there is anything ANYTHING AT ALL i need to change, please let me know

Jackson Ezra Hirsch wasn't exactly suprised that he had been picked to be a part of the assembly team.
He loved assemblies because it broke off from the classroom boredom that he normally faced, and they were a lot more exciting than the assemblies back at Fairfield, ask anyone. Well, ask Aura Rigby, he was pretty sure she was the only other one who came to Baum from Fairfield. Well, actually, she was the only one who had gone to both high schools. No matter! He always volunteered to do the activities and did them with great enthusiasm because that's how you should do anything, really.
At first, they had him doing afternoon announcements, but he was always too excited for the intended winding down of the day. He could speak clearly and be understood over the low-quality speaker system or whatever it's called. PA or something? Whatever, he didn't know, and he didn't do announcements long enough to find out, anyways.
Obviously, the head of the assembly team wasn't well organized, because the shift in positions had come very soon after they were given in the first place. Actually, it wasn't really that surprising, since a lot of the team members were somewhat new to this and therefore did not know their strengths. Jackson was relieved when he was put into assemblies because it also included sports announcing and it was generally awesome all around.
Also awesome was who he was working with, the sophomore girl. Stelly (more commonly called Stella by basically everybody but Jackson), was pretty cool and he had seen her around and read her name in Baum's sports hall of fame thing. They had also competed in one of the games at an assembly but that was a while ago.
But they wer paired and it was awesome because Stella was totally cool. He considered her one of his friends and she was pretty high up there on that list, considering that he let her make fun of his love life. He would probably get mad if it was anyone else besides one of his closest friends, so there. Well, he probably couldn't stay mad at Stelly anyways, if for any reason except his ridiculous nickname for her.
Today they were planning on working on the script for the next sports assembly, so he was expecting her to barge through his door at any min - yep, there she was, firing double pistols at him. He clutched his chest playfully, as he always did when she fired double pistols at him, though he made a face at 'the Jacksonator'. Yeah, it was really bad.
"Stell, Stelly, Stelly Jelly Bean..." No, she wasn't a toddler. "Yeah, no, that one's worse than the Jacksonator." He smiled and clapped his hands together. "Hells yeah I'm ready, are you ready? Words can't describe how totally ready I am to write this thing..." He paused for a millisecond, taking in her next suggestion. "I just got a free Xbox and some games, if you're totally ready to embrace the Honest Abe lurking beneath your inner American, though. Like, I'm not even American and I'd be cool with that sort of thing."

Stella laughed and shook her head at the new nickname. That was another thing about Jackson she liked: how easily he came up with them. “We’re swearing off Jacksonator and Jelly Bean.” Never mind that they both started with a J, which she thought was actually kind of cool. Ah well, you win some, you lose some. Except not at all, because Stella never lost. Rolling onto her side, Stella propped her head up on her hand and waited for an answer from Jackson. One of his best qualities had to be that he was always just as willing to ditch work to play video games. She couldn’t say the same for other guys in her life (cough cough), and that put Jackson just a little bit higher on her list of awesome friends.
Sitting up excitedly, she looked towards the TV and the game consoles. “Free?!” She gave him a wide eyed stare, wondering how he’d managed that. She wanted free things!! While stealing was always an option, the master thief she’d met awhile back had disappeared. Completely fallen off the face of the Earth. It was totally lame and she hadn’t found anybody else to teach her the ways of theft. Which was understandable given that they usually tried not to get caught. If getting free things meant entering giveaways, she’d do that. She’d never know until Jackson told her, though. “How?? Can you hook me up?!” The best of her gaming systems were at home, as her mother was a paranoid weirdo. All she had to distract herself with was a Wii and a PlayStation 2. It was awful.
Grinning, Stella leapt off the bed and sat herself down, much too close to the television. It was a surprise she wasn’t wearing glasses yet, given how bad her vision should’ve been from how frequently she abused her poor eyes. “Always,” she returned, laughing at his wording and reaching for the controller she always used and waiting as patiently as she could for Jackson to get it all set up. It wasn’t like she didn’t know what to do, it was more that she was 80% sure she’d break it. She always broke shiny new things. It was one of the only reasons her mother ever hesitated to put her in a dress. More often than not, Stella ‘accidentally’ ripped them to shreds going up the stairs or by spilling an entire glass of milk down her front.
Man, whatever, totally not her fault!
