personality
Max is a very independent young man, but he needs something to control and someone to admire and appreciate him. He is fully capable of being greatly successful at nearly anything he does, but hsi downfall is that he's a show off. He is much happier if he has an audience and a following of people who look up to him. Which is what he had before he went to jail, and he hopes he still has it when he gets back. He grew accustomed to his family, and he would rather not be alone.
He's a natural leader. People are attracted to his charisma and his passions, and in turn he gives them a certain sense of hope. A father, brother, lover. Anything Max can give them. Though generally laid back and devil may care, he is realistic. He understands fully the dangers out there, and though he makes it look easy, he goes to great lengths to avoid them. Of course, being such a strong minded person tends to lead to him being bull headed about things. Cops are bad, Schools are bad, the system is bad, religion is bad. Max doesn't trust any of it, because he has his own personal prejudices. A person he can usually forgive, but a group he cannot. And if there is a person out there he can't forgive, it is not something that time will heal. That person will be hated until the day Max takes his last breath.
Max loves the new and extraordinary, despises the dull and regular, and if this is what he is faced with, he will simply create his own drama and excitement. Quiet makes him nervous. This makes Max prone to stir the pot a little, though he doesn't create things out of nothing. Max is resilient, with an amazing ability to bounce back from any feelings of despair or unfortunate events. He just does not like to be unhappy. It hurts his pride to let bad things get the better of him, so he will take matters into his own hands and make things right again.
Max can occasionally come into trouble if he meets another natural born leader. He'd rather die than take an order, and not give an inch. Max will not budge his opinions- even if he's been proven wrong, but will agree to disagree if others don't comply with him. On the condition that the other person does not try to impose their beliefs on him or people he loves. He's incredibly territorial, and does not like being invaded.
Still, he's loving and will not lead those he cares about astray.
past
Max has no memory of his Mother, or of his Father. From his earliest days he had been in the New York foster care system, moving from house to house, family to family. He was a smart kid, but very mischievous and a bit of a troublemaker. It was here that he met Leopold, who, despite his dorky name, was actually quite savvy. He taught Max all of the essentials in making it in the city, acting as Leo's scout and sidekick.
But soon Leo turned eighteen, and vanished from Max's life. It was a little crushing to the twelve year old Max, though he had expected it. It showed him how little he could rely on people, and soon Leo was replaced by Prometheus the Ferret, who Max trained to grab various things discreetly from people. At first his foster siblings, then the foster parents, and then, eventually, people in the crowds of New York.
As Max got older, he neglected school, deciding he was too poor to even think about college. Instead he took to the streets, earning money doing various scams. A couple times he did whore himself out, particularly when he wanted something a little pricey. There was always a client looking for a strapping young lad to assist with some 'chores' when the wife was away, after all. Other times, he would make money legitimately. He is quite the little illusionist, able to make quarters disappear behind ears and what not.
While doing his little jobs, Max acquired a family of sorts. It all happened quickly and with little ado, but he loved them. They had a home- of sorts- and a family. They didn't need anyone else, though there was more love to give if another wandering soul that came their way. Like the Manson family without all the murder and indoctrination. So... Like a family.
One day while roaming around New York, Max had stopped in the Museum to take a look around. Inside their was a neat abstract piece of art from some New Yorker wannabe that looked vaguely like the Eiffel Tower. As his lover, Alex, was homesick for Paris, Max decided to take in hopes of urging him to stay. An act of love that would cause a bit of a ruckus.
It was an easy steal and Max had gotten away. But about five blocks away he was stopped on suspicion of criminal mischief when he had passed a trinket stand. Ironically, he had stolen nothing from their. However they found the piece and the artist pressed charges. Not wanting to get his family involved and paranoid about the police monitoring his calls, he didn't call anyone and served his eight months.
But something about begin trapped behind stone walls made him snap a little.
present
Currently Max is in the process of getting out of the system. He'll be on parole, though it's unlikely he'll actually go. While in the system, he became sharper. Even faster than before, even more gilded of the tongue. His card tricks were without flaw, he gained the ability to pick pocket in plain sight and have no one notice. It's really quite strange to think about. Even stranger is a sudden understanding of French, which he discovered with his Cajun cell mate, Maquis Dupree.
He even thinks a bit in french, though it sounds nothing like him. At all. In fact, it sounds older. Gruffer. Max attributes it to missing Alex and tries not to concern himself with the origins. Anyway, he's getting out, a shoelace less and a bit less cheerful. But still the same, old, lovable, Max.
family.
- Alexander Fortescue: Angel, his lover. Not sure what to expect when he sees him, to be honest. Hopes Alex still loves him.
- Aisha Nuri: Blue, baby sister. Expecting her to be understanding at least. She's homeless, she gets it. Right?
- Prometheus: Ferret, King of Swag, The Sly Sleuth of Swagger. He hangs around the jail and brings Max pretties unbeknownst to the guards.

book title The Hunchback of Notre Dame
backstory
In the story, Clopin disrupts Pierre Gringoire's play, begging the audience for money. Later that night, Gringoire runs into him once again in the Court of Miracles, where Clopin is revealed not as a beggar, but as the King of Truands. He prepares to execute Gringoire for trespassing, until the beautiful Esmeralda agrees to marry him in order to save him.
Near the end of the novel, Clopin receives news of Esmeralda's upcoming execution for the framed murder of Captain Phoebus. In order to rescue her, he rounds all of the Truands to attack Notre Dame Cathedral where Esmeralda is protected by Quasimodo. In response to the assault, Quasimodo retaliates with stones, timber, and molten lead. Finally, the author notes that Clopin dies courageously during the attack.
