Lyndee loved and adored every single one of her employees, and let me tell you why.
Lucia was the hardest worker she’d ever met. She’s either constantly in the kitchen, rolling dough, icing cupcakes, or pulling cookies out of the oven. Her long blonde hair was always tied up and put in a hair net (something a lot of Lyndee’s other employees don’t do; even she forgot sometimes. It’s okay, though, there’s never been a hair found in their product, don’t worry!).
Joshua was what anybody and everybody would call a ‘class clown,’ and he was just that. At work and at school (or so she’s heard), and she wouldn’t be surprised if he was at home, as well. He’s always cracking jokes and making the customers laugh. He’s so personable, Lyndee wondered why he’s working at a little tea shop like hers when he could, without a doubt, have a higher paying job somewhere else.
Mary was that employee that Lyndee was still so glad to have hired. She’s a hard worker, a sweetheart, and she’s not one to talk back. (Surprisingly enough, there was one employee that talks back and if he weren’t so good at what he did, Lyndee would have fired him by now). Lyndee never lets people comment on Mary’s appearance, her generally dark attire and sleepy look. It almost feels like she’s taken the girl under her wing. It’s a nice feeling, to say the least.
Alex was not at all reserved about talking back, as if he knows that there’s no way Lyndee would ever fire him. It’s the most frustrating thing she’s had to deal with, and he’s so smug about it, too. The worst part, though, was how constantly he mocked her for her obsession of all things to do with love. Seriously, if he weren’t so good with customers and at baking and stocking, she’d have kicked him to the curb by now. It’s ridiculous.
Serenity was new but she’s done quite well lately and Lyndee likes especially to bug her about her love life. She wasn’t sure what it was, but Lyndee can just tell there’s something complicated going on in Serenity’s life, and she would very much have liked to figure it out. She may or may not hover over Serenity a bit more than the others, insisting it was because she’s new, and that was partly it. But it’s mostly that she enjoyed talking to and interrogating the new girl.
That’s why she swooped on over to Serenity’s station not long after she’s started her shift, offering her assistance. “Afternoon, my dear! And how are you on this oh lovely of days?” Lyndee could see the café from here, could see each one of her customers, enjoying their tea and pastries. “I don’t suppose you’ve invited any friends to visit you today?” Her being new and all, Lyndee hadn’t really had a chance to get to know of Serenity’s friends and potential matches, and so she found herself asking about it quite often. More so than usual.

Serenity loved her new job more than anything else at the moment. It was her dream to work at her all-time favorite place in New York City, even if just for a while. She loved everyone who worked there (even if she avoided some because she didn't know them all that well yet) and got along well with a few.
Joshua was probably her favorite (besides the boss) because he was fun to be around. They often laughed and joked when they had the same shift and would share kitchen duty and arm wrestle over who has to do the dishes (Serenity's hands were already dry and she hadn't been working there that long).
Perhaps it was wrong of her, but she was a bit standoffish towards Mary because she seemed a little... well, terrfyingly terrified. Serenity didn't know what it was, but she wasn't sure she liked her all that much yet and had kind of avoided her as subtely as possible. She felt guilty about it but otherwise she didn't do anything to fix it.
Alex - well, Alex was out there. And by that, she meant really sassy. Serenity felt uncomfortable when Alex talked back to his boss and mocked her and finally Serenity had talked to him about it, and he said that he was just having issues in his life and he was taking it out on her. Serenity hadn't had the chance to tell Lyndee yet, but she planned to do so at the right time.
Serenity started her shift off with a bang, and by that she meant tidying up tables before actual guests were seated there. She was on her second table (the first looked perfect and prepared for hungry/thirsty customers), when she heard a voice from behind her.
"Oh, hello!" she smiled and looked up at her beautifully blonde boss (alliteration, her favorite). Looking around at the people enjoying their pastries, she replied, "I'm wonderful, how are you?" The tables she was working on were already set, she was just making them perfect, so it wasn't necessary, really. "I don't think I have, though I'm surprised they don't come because I talk about this perfect place constantly." She wasnt sucking up, she was telling the truth. "Why do you ask?" Lyndee felt like one of those people who would accept you as a friend right away, and she had hired her, after all.

Quite pleased with the table Serenity had just set, Lyndee gave a nod of approval. Whether or not the new girl saw it didn’t matter so much as Lyndee was confirming to herself how good of an idea it had been to hire Serenity. Yes, job well done, Lyndee! Job well done, too, Serenity, of course. “Oh, lovely as always!” Okay, so she used the word ‘love’ anytime she could, no matter how she was using it. It simply had to be expected of her by now. It was practically a part of her. At least she’d done well enough not letting her shipping pirate loose on customers and employees. Going on about her OTPs was a surefire way to scare everybody off.
“How are you liking working here? Is everybody treating you well?
” If Serenity had even a word to say about any of her co-workers, Lyndee would be on them in no time at all. You never gave the new girl a hard time. Not even trying to hold it back, Lyndee squealed at Serenity’s praise for the tea shop. She gave the younger girl an affectionate squeeze, a one-armed hug that wasn’t as awkward as everybody made them out to be. Why couldn’t everybody see things the way Serenity did? The girl knew exactly what she was talking about! “ If you need to strike a deal with them, I’m sure we could throw in a ‘buy one, get one free’ coupon, right?” Lyndee liked ideas like that. Whatever it took to bring people in, honestly! Lyndee took to helping Serenity with the task at hand, feeling slightly useless and like a distraction by just standing and talking. “ Curious, is all.” She answered truthfully, doing her best to not seem overbearing. “ Trying to figure out if you’ve got any special someones, I guess.” Well, she’d shot that one straight to hell, hadn’t she? Really, though, a girl with hair as lovely and eyes as sparkling as Serenity’s couldn’t be without a significant other. It seemed simply impossible! She was delightfully dainty, so short she could have been pocket sized. Lyndee could just see her with a tall handsome fellow – oh, height differences were the best! (Was she getting ahead of herself? … Oops). [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Serenity glowed a little at the nod of approval. It was perfectly alright to be proud of her work, and to be praised for it. Maybe it was a bit of an overreaction, but she really did want Lyndee's approval. She noted the use of the word 'love', as per usual. Serenity didn't mind, of course, about the whole 'shipping' thing. Love was a complicated thing and people needed to realize that it was a good thing for people like Lyndee to sort things out! Why, who wouldn't be afraid to ask their crush out after walking out of this place? No one in their right minds!
Well, maybe she was a little overbearing sometimes, but Serenity didn't mind that either.
"They're all really sweet! Even Alex!" She shrugged, moving over a little so she could set the next table and talk at the same time. "He's just frustrated because there's some stuff going on in his life - stuff that would make the whole reason he doesn't want to talk about love make sense. But don't tell him I told you." She didn't like to gossip, but this wasn't really gossiping! This was just resolving a few issues, which is what Serenity did best. That was her area of expertise just as Lyndee's was love lives.
"I could pass out fliers with coupons at school, maybe! This is much closer than Starbucks and a whole lot better, but for some reason the kids just want Starbucks." She shrugged again and finished setting the table she was working on. Serenity straightened up and smiled at Lyndee before moving on to the next table. "I think if we got them to come here, they would like it a lot better."
Lyndee helped her set this table, and it looked even more perfect than the ones she set on her own. She guessed it was the fact that it was her restaurant and her vision and somehow, the placements looked the same but different. Strange thing, that. What was not strange was when Lyndee asked her about 'special someones'. She did her best to look just a little surprised and embarassed even if she did know it was coming, then shrugged a third time and relaxed. "Well, there is a boy..." Silas drifted through her mind, but was met in the middle with someone else: her roommate, Georgie. "And a girl." She didn't hesitate with the 'girl' part, as she was always open about that sort of thing. If Lyndee minded, she would just have to fire her. "I guess I'm just kind of torn." Shrugging a final time, she moved on to the next table as if it was no big deal.

A customer waved her down and despite how badly she wanted to stay and chat with Serenity, the customers always came first. She told Serenity she’d be just a minute and quickly made her way over. Another tea? Absolutely. A pastry to go? Of course! Hurrying to get their refill and their purchase in a to-go bag, Lyndee wished them well and hoped to see them again. She liked to assume that all the customers she interacted with would be back, and would soon be regulars as well. To some, her shop may have been too light and airy, but to her, it was perfectly peaceful. Chaos and tea did not go together well.
Returning to help Serenity with setting the tables, she listened carefully to her answer. Sweet wasn’t exactly a word she’d use to describe Alex, but Serenity wasn’t Lyndee and he probably didn’t push her buttons as badly as he did his boss. Furrowing her brows, Lyndee frowned and looked towards the back of the shop. Oh. Maybe she’d have to be more careful around him. She smiled, then, at Serenity. “My lips are sealed. Thank you for letting me know.” She was such a peacemaker sometimes, it was really quite nice.
Adding ‘make and print coupons’ to her mental to do list, Lyndee nodded, all smiles again. “That would be perfect!
” Starbucks was nice and all but she obviously was biased towards her own café. “ Starbucks is pretty expensive, too. It might just be the image, y’know?” Starbucks was hugely popular and because of that, people assumed they’d look cool with a Frappunchino in hand. “ I’d really appreciate that, though, Serenity.” Not having expected Serenity to actually give her a response regarding her love life, Lyndee almost dropped the silverware she’d been setting. A boy and a girl? … Love triangles!!! It took all of her restraint to not squeal. Trying to be nonchalant as possible, she finished setting her table and then watched as Serenity moved on like it was no big deal. It was such a big deal. “ Well, how do they feel about you?” If one had more obvious affections towards her, maybe that would help. “ You’re not… like, a peacemaker between them, are you?” It came to her suddenly that that might be the case, given how good at it Serenity was. “ It’s fine if you are!! But…” Well… awkward. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Serenity nodded and smiled at her promise of silenity. Wait, was that even a word? No, it wasn't, she couldn't remember it being in any dictionary or thesaurus she had ever encountered. Maybe someone had made it up, a fancied word to describe the lack there of. Come to think of it, she had actually thought of it a couple of times before... but only at Pipin' Hot Tea. Weird. Actually, it kind of sounded like a mixture of -
"I don't even like Starbucks that much. It's greatness is way overstated." It was true, the coffee wasn't even that great. Besides, the only time she had gone there, someone had dared her to try the cake pops, and she threw up. They were delicious but... the thought and the reminder of the trauma kind of brought it on. So Starbucks wasn't even an option anymore.
She beamed at Lyndee's praise, proud to have concocted the idea with her. It was inspired by Lyndee's conversation, after all, so she couldn't take all the credit. It was also Lyndee's decision in the end, so there. Serenity supposed there was a difference between pride and being proud. Between confidence and hubris. This was obviously a show of the former.
Serenity could almost feel Lyndee's excitement, but that could have just been her perception of her. Or a psychological designation of her feelings projected onto her boss, her brain attempting to make Serenity feel less frustrated by making Lyndee appear excited. ...Even that was a little convoluted by her standards, but the thought was there just the same.
Either way, Lyndee was keepig the conversation going, which was no more than Serenity could have expected. But she really didn't mind, it was good to have someone to talk to about this sort of thing. "I'm not really sure," she started off with, and it was true. "I mean, the boy seems to like me well enough, but the girl?" She breathed before continuing. "We're roomies and best friends, sure, but... I don't think she really sees me as an option? Or commitment in general, really." Serenity shrugged, trying not to get too emotional over this. She was taken aback by Lyndee's assessment, as well, given the fact that "And yes, I suppose 'peacemaker' is the proper word for it." (Another word would be 'auspistice', but Serenity had never heard of Homestuck.) "I guess what I mean is that... I don't know. I don't really want to choose between them, but I also don't know if they would choose me. I don't know if they want anything more than a casual fling." She sighed and continuted setting the table, realizing she had stopped.
