Life Skills class was THE BEST.
It was the bomb.com. It was the easiest class she’d ever taken, obviously not counting homeroom. All it was was talking about things that would help them along in life, like how to file taxes and understanding the real estate, and how important it was to pay back credit card purchases.
Currently? They were doing this big section on kids. It was a little less easy, just because there was so much about them. They had a lot of needs and wants, and they cried all the time and you always had to watch them. They were kinda dumb, in her opinion. But upon hearing that the girl next to her had gasped, a little offended, and gone off at her about how they were just babies! Oh man, that had been a blast.
But she didn’t really care about any of it. If there was one thing in this class she bothered to care about, it was Jackson Hirsch. And that was totally not creepy. It wasn’t her fault he was funny and nice and had crazy wild hair and warm eyes. If anything, that was his fault. It was totally his fault that she had a crush on him. Yeah. Maybe if he’d stop being so attractive, he’d also stop having girls throw themselves at him when he had a girlfriend. Not that Sienna had ever thrown herself at him. God no.
His girlfriend was really nice and pretty and they were really nice and pretty together. Sienna wondered what was up with him and that new girl, but she wasn’t going to involve herself in business that wasn’t hers. Unless somebody brought it up first in which case all aboard the gossip train. Without realizing it, she’d sort of been staring at him from across the room and it wasn’t until somebody said her name that she started back to reality. “What? ”
The teacher, who stood beside her, rolled their eyes. It was then that she noticed most of the students had gotten up and moved around. “Your partner for this project is Jackson,” a packet of paper was handed to her, “you’re going to be taking care of the RealCare baby simulators.” Whoa wait shit what?? With that, she was ushered out of her desk and over to where Jackson sat. Oh man, she really hoped he hadn’t caught her staring earlier.
Clearing her throat a little awkwardly, Sienna took the seat next to him and placed the packet at the edge so it was within his reach. “Uh. ‘Sup. I want a girl.” That wasn’t demanding, was it? Oops. Wow, she suddenly really hoped she’d make a good mom. What if this thing, like, died? Or died as much as a fake baby could die? What if cried all hours of the night and she didn’t get any sleep? This was totally gonna suck, she knew it. Unless, like, Jackson had some awesome secret dad powers he hadn’t told anyone about. That would be nice. outfit! [/blockquote]

Life skills was pretty much the most useful class Jackson had taken in his four years at Baum. That's kind of what he had actually gone to Baum for, to take better classes that Fairfield High didn't offer. Well, he had left for other reasons, but that was the reason he liked to believe.
It was pretty easy, too, which was a plus. A lot of the things they learned were just common sense that Jackson wouldn't have thought of had he not taken the class, so it was good that he had. Once they learned something, it was pretty easy to remember.
At the moment, they were working a unit on children, which Jackson had been excited for when they first started. It had been boring at first, sitting through classes and classes of notes and groaning and "Man, I'm never having kids." But Jackson totally wanted kids, as in whole-heartedly, no joke, wanted to be a dad one day, so he ignored the other unenthusiastic kids and paid attention, taking thorough notes and memorizing what he needed to. He totally wanted to go to Grace every day and just talked to her about it, about how they were going to have kids one day and how everything was just going to be perfect. He would have if they were talking at the moment.
It was all a big misunderstanding, of course. Jackson would never cheat on Grace ever, but still, she had accused him and it hurt and he said some things that he regretted. They were taking a break for a little while, and Jackson had become more withdrawn that he usually was. He felt eyes on him, and figured they belonged to Sienna Porter, but he didn't care. He could sense when he had a girl's attention, though he didn't like to take advantage of that because a) he had a girlfriend and they knew full well and b) he knew it would be cocky of him to do something like that, even before he asked Grace out. Not that he wasn't cocky beforehand, but he tried not to be.
The teacher was giving out partners, but he was in the former half of the alphabetical surnames in the class, and he was pairing them with the latter half and giving them the packets and the order to move. He vaguely listened to the names he was calling out, and the names he was saying to the students, trying to see who it was so he could prepare himself.
Jackson heard his name when a certain red-head was at the table, and it took everything he had to keep himself from sighing audibly. He did not need this right now, to be paired with a girl that liked him for this project. He figured the rumours would start up about this, too. High school sucked.
She took the seat next to him and Jackson didn't move to be nearer to her, even if it meant he couldn't read the packet as closely as he wanted to. He wouldn't give the gossipmongers anything to work with on this one, nope. "Uh, yeah, a girl is fine. What do you want to name her?" he asked, trying to be apathetic. Truth be told, he was kind of excited for this project, even if it might cause controversy. He had name ideas that were completely and utterly separate from the ones he had for his real future kids that he wasn't sure were going to exist anymore, but he wanted to hear Sienna's ideas first.

Well, shit.
“Uh. Okay, friend. Don’t get too excited.
” Sure, she totally got that for some people, this assignment was a waste of their life. Like, Houston and Whitney over there. He was texting and she was fixing her mascara. Man, what the fuck? This was going to be totally awesome. Okay so sure yeah, it was going to be really annoying when the kid cried at three in the morning. Who knew what other requirements came with the baby? They’d obviously have to feed and burp and rock it. She sincerely hoped they didn’t have to change any diapers. Nose goes on that.
Sienna shrugged. “Nah, man. I picked the gender, you pick the name.” Honestly, growing up with six sisters whose names all also started with S had kind of ruined the whole thing for her. Besides, she didn’t have any ideas. If she were to come up with something on the spot, it’d be horrible. Like… like Gertrude. What was even up with names like that? You don’t give your kid an old person name cause they aren’t going to be old until, like, fifty. Sienna knew a Beatrice in middle school, but she went by Bea, so it was okay. What kind of nicknames could you get from Gertrude? That’s right: none! The longer she actually sat there, the more she felt like this wasn’t going to go well at all. “ Do. Er. Do you want to switch partners?” Because while yeah, it’d be pretty cool to work with Jackson on this project, she really didn’t want to make him uncomfortable. Besides, after all the weird stuff she’d heard about him and his girlfriend and the new girl, she didn’t want to make things worse. How she’d make things worse, she didn’t know. It wasn’t like she was going to do anything! Just because she had a crush didn’t mean she was gonna wreck a relationship. No. Hell no. Hell fucking no. “ I’ll, like. Leave. Pretend to be sick or something.” Okay but she couldn’t keep that up for long. Even when she was younger, she’d never been very good at faking sick. It had to be that her sisters could see right through her. Or that when her dad did believe her, it meant medicine and falling behind on homework. She didn’t want to miss class just so Jackson wouldn’t have to deal with any more drama. “ I’ll keep my distance. Act like I hate you.” Sienna wasn’t going to deny sounding a little upset at the idea. It was one thing to pretend to hate somebody and another to actually hate them. She didn’t think it was physically possible for her to hate anyone, really. Still, the things she’d do for love. As in somebody else’s. She’d fake sick and fake hate if it meant a couple could be happy together. Especially one like Jackson and his girlfriend. I mean, come on, talk about a fifteen on a cute scale of one to ten.
