Having a free period was great.
Sienna wondered why she hadn’t gone for it sooner. Sure, she’d had a lot of classes she’d wanted to take, but she could’ve figured something out, right? That didn’t really matter, though. All that mattered was that it was her senior year and she finally had a free period. Honestly, she deserved it. Admittedly, she hadn’t worked super hard and she hadn’t made any lists or top percentages, but she was passing wasn’t she? Hell yeah she was!
She usually spent the hour at her dorm, taking a nap or organizing her collection or dancing around to her music. Sometimes she just went around taking pictures, and other times she went for lunch to any number of the food places around school. Either they’d picked a great place to build it or the restaurants knew what they were doing. Probably the latter. Who cared, really? As long as she got her Taco Bell, she was happy. And it was with her steak quesadilla in hand that she made her way to the courtyard for a nice sit underneath a tree or on a bench or at a table to enjoy her meal.
It was going to be a perfectly normal free period, with her camera at the ready and dinky little music player blasting some 90’s jams. Yeah man, it was gonna be tippy toppers. That was some saying she’d heard a British guy say the other day while walking around Times Square. He’d been with an angry guy with curly red hair and the Brit, whose nose was kinda huge, had been laughing. Sienna thought she would’ve been liked to be friends with them, but they were gone before she’d got a chance to say anything. Missed opportunities were always the worst, and she wondered sometimes why her voice just left her like that.
Whatever! None of that mattered, because she’d just had the first delicious bite of her scrumptious food and her taste buds were having a tasty dance party. But then her eyes did a little scan of the courtyard and the school and they landed upon something rather interesting. If the room had been properly lit and there’d been more people, it wouldn’t have caught her interest. But the window was open and from where she was, she could only see one person. Packing her lunch back into the bag, she got up immediately, the bag hanging from her inner elbow, and her hands poised with her camera to snap some shots.
Sienna had never been very good at sneaking, but she thought she’d done a pretty good job this time. Peeking up over the window ledge, she peered into the unused classroom to see what was going on. There was only one person in there and… what was that? Doing the only thing she could think to do, Sienna clicked her camera on and used the zoom function to get a closer look at… the cauldron? Well, she wouldn't know until she asked. Now thoroughly perplexed, Sienna did the next thing that came to mind. She stood and crawled in through the window, asking as she went, “what is this, the medieval ages?”
