~~10 Years After!
"Mase," Mallory's voice was on the verge of nagging and whiny, "Hurry up! I am going to tell your parents that you made us late for Veronica's Wedding." She was sliding into her heels as she passed the bathroom door that was securely locked with Mason inside it. She had been warning him that the dinner was going to creep up on him, but he insisted that he'd have enough time to get ready. He was even bold enough to say that he'd be waiting for her. Mallory had made it her mission to be ready way before him, but now he was cutting very thin. "C'mon Babe." She knocked on the bathroom door and trying the knob. Locked, still. "I'll leave you." She teased as she rolled her eyes in frustration before heading towards the kitchen to do her waiting. Opening the door to the dishwasher, Mallory retrieved the freshly cleaned dishes and put them back into their rightful spot in the cabinet, or drawer. Her mind stayed on the clock while she worked slowly.
Shit. Shit. Shit. He had lost it...again. He had lost the ring for a second time today and he was sure Mallory would find it and give him a scrutinizing look. He was searching the bathroom over and over, but to no avail. The ring was supposed to stay in the box, but he simply enjoyed marveling over it. He had spent so much on it and knew that Mallory would love it, but he was a pro at losing things. His stomach turned and knotted up when he heard Mallory knocking at the door and threatening that she'd leave him. Shit. Fuck. Why was he always doing this to himself? He sighed defeated and went to leave, and in doing so he noticed a glimmer from behind the toilet. The Ring! He was saved and God was looking out for him. Sauntering out the kitchen, Mason looked cautiously around for Mallory, and when he heard her in the kitchen he ran to retrieve the small velvet covered box and his shoes. Stashing the ring in the box, then the box in his pocket he emerged from their room. "You know I love making you worry about me." He teased as he stole a kiss to her cheek.
Mallory was thoroughly relieved that Mason hadn't drowned while taking a shower, and even more relieved when he get her a kiss, light and soft on the cheek. "Yes. I love stressing." She retorted back sarcastically as she closed the now empty dishwasher and grabbed his hand pulling him towards the door and the car. She tossed him the keys and slid into the passenger seat and buckled him, watching him do the same in the driver seat. "Can you believe it...Veronica is getting married and is pregnant. You know, Rose and Guillermo are on their third child. Even Jeny, Guillermo's baby sister, is having a baby." Her voice was calm, but her meaning was as loud as a neon light saying; 'Give me a baby!'
Mason tensed up a bit in his seat at the mention of marriage and babies. "Mallory. We've discussed this over a hundred times. I am going to marry you, but kids can wait...right?" He huffed a bit and he really meant for that to be a statement, but the way Mallory was looking at him just made his heartbeat. He knew this feeling all too well, she always had this effect over him. Hell, that's how she got him to buy a house in the suburbs outside of New York City.
Mallory halfheartedly smiled and nodded in agreement. "So, I was discussing baby names the other day with Rose and I think I have: Andrew Michael for the boy," Mason huffed a bit and Mallory smacked his chest before continuing, "and Lola Rose for a girl." Mallory liked that name even if Rose had wiggled her name into it.
Mason felt like his stomach was doing flips as Mallory told him the ideas of baby names. Honestly, he wanted to avoid that subject at all costs, especially when it was this indepth. "Mal. Let's just go with the flow. No need to rush anything." He smiled and stole a glance at Mallory, who was shrugging at him which made him feel entirely bad. He thought waiting was the perfect plan...aside from them being set financially, he figured they weren't ready. Maybe, he wasn't ready. Thirty years old and still not ready for a kid... When would he ever be ready? The rest of the car ride was quiet aside from the soft music from the radio. Mason held Mallory's hand and squeezed it occasionally for good measure, when she returned the squeeze he felt more relieved.
~~16 Years After!
"Mommie. Mommie! Bubba pinch'ded me." A girl of 4 years came running inside with her twin brother on her heels, both out of breath. Lola Rose was holding her arm and the tears were rolling down her face. Mallory turned from the cutting with a soft smile before kneeling down, "Oh, the horror my dear Lola! Do you wish Mommie to cast Bubba into the timeout chair?" He voice playfully teasing, but Andrew and Lola's minds didn't register the teasing. Lola smiled at her brother victoriously, while Andrew groaned loudly. "Buuuuuut Mommie! Sissy is lyin. I swears it." Andrew gave Lola a scowl. Mallory fought back a smile, trying to hold a stern face, "Let me see where he pinched you." Lola looked a bit confused, but gave Mallory a stern look, "Itswent 'way Mommie."
Mason came into the kitchen a bit frazzled and hair sticking up from just waking up from a nap. "What happened here?" His eyes assessing the situation, seeing Lola with 'tears'' in her eyes, he gave Mallory a skeptical look before giving Andrew the same look. "Daddie! Bubba pinch'ded me but it's all better. Mommie fix'ded it. SEE!" She exclaimed as she run to Mason showing him her arm. Mason bent down and checked her arm for any redness or bruising. He got his 'serious-dad' face and looked at Andrew gesturing him over. "Now, Andrew--" A knock at the door cut Mason off because the twins ran straight for the window to get a look at their visitor. "UNCLE JAY!" They both exclaimed happily as they tried to fight over who would open the door. Andrew succeeded and threw open the door as Mallory and Mason made their way into the living room where the front door was located. "My favorite kids!" Jason announced while embracing them in a big hug. "I missed you guys." He added looked at each one, smiling. "We missed you too.." Lola started, "Uncle Jay!" Andrew finished.
Mason gave Mallory a cautious look because he knew that Jason always had a thing for his wife, and he was just skeptical. However, Mallory told him time and time again that Jason and her were only friends and nothing more. He grew to accept Jason as the years progressed, but he was never sure of Jason's intentions. "Jay-Bay! C'mere." Mallory took her closest guy friend into a hug and planted a light kiss to his cheek. Jason chuckled lightly while returning the hug. "Jason." Mason gave Jason a slight nod before giving him a handshake, which was a bit harder than necessary. "I thought I'd come pop in since I won't make it to the twins' birthday." Jason stated, but Lola and Andrew groaned loudly as they moped to their room, half-expecting Jason to followed. "Come sit. Mase, love, can you make some coffee?" Mallory smiled at her husband before joining Jason on the couch. Mason held back a scoff, but he needed the distraction from Jason. Jealousy wasn't his forte, but Jason just rubbed him the wrong way. He could be civil and polite, but the moment Jason overstepped a boundary...Well, Hell was waiting. He made a pot of coffee attempting to eavesdrop.
"Mal. Can we talk?" Jason's voice was low and stern and it made Mallory concerned. "Whats the matter?" Her voice soft and her gaze even softer. "I..well, you see.. I sort... You remember when.." He couldn't finish his thought and the direction this seemed to be headed scared Mallory. Doe eyed Mallory spoke, "J--Jason." She could only say his name, but now Jason looked concerned as to why Mallory looked freaked out. "Wait, Mal. I was telling you that I am leaving New York." He blurted out trying to fix the confusion. Mallory was now seriously shocked and confused, "B-but, wait. No! You can't. Why?" Her voice full of confusion and her eyes brimming with tears. "Mal, don't cry. Oh God, anything but tears. Hit me, hate me, but don't cry. I can't stay here. Too many memories that haunt me, ya know?" Of course she didn't. She was happily married with two gorgeous children and a husband that loved her. He wanted to be where Mason was, but he couldn't. He'd never be able to make Mallory happy enough and he'd always be 'just a friend.' So he needed the escape. "Jason..." Her voice trailed off as Mason came in. His tensed face changed to full concern for his crying wife.
