height 5'2"
clothing style Tends to head toward the casual. Jeans are a must, but she can be spotted in any sort of shirt, as long as it’s colorful and not black. She can’t stand black. She also tends toward practical shoes. If you can’t run in them, she says, what’s the point of wearing them at all?
distinctive traits A wry smile is always on her lips, she spends so much time in the sun that she burns often, thoroughly freckled features, and a voice that’s surprisingly loud for her small body.
...personal*
personality Cat has often been described as impatient, quick-tempered, and quick to act. And these are all pretty accurate. Cat is not a patient person. She hates nothing more than sitting around waiting for something to happen. If she gets her way, SHE'LL be the one MAKING something happen, and is quite happy about it. However, having Gawain in her head has also given her a bit more caution than she had before. While she still is very impulsive, she now thinks before she acts. And although she has a temper, she won't let it get the better of her, and calms down fairly easily.
Gawain has also given her a few other traits. She is no longer so quick to speak, and tends to be fairly wary around people in general, in particular men who are larger than her (A.K.A.--everyone). But she likes to flirt with men who are fairly safe, and her fear doesn’t stop her from being social—she likes talking to people and joking around. Practical jokes are still a staple. But most of the time, she learns more about people than they learn about her. She likes everyone, but tends to be selective about who she really cares about, and she misses her brother heartily. Due to her/Gawain's title as a "Maiden's Knight", she also is pretty protective of girls.
Lastly, Cat has a wry sense of humor that tends to throw people off. She doesn't MEAN to, but she's not very good at turning off the sarcasm. This has gotten her into a lot of trouble, so she's currently trying to adapt and be a little nicer for the student's sakes, which has the bonus effect of making her a bit more observant. She will also try to take control of any situation. She's a bit bossy that way.
past
Cat was born as the...unwanted child of Doctor Mona Cadogan, a talented surgeon, and Captain Julio Rivera Moreno, a member of the Spanish Navy. The two had met in the captain's native spain and had had a torrid love affair, which ended in Cat, Doctor Mona leaving to return to her native Wales, leaving Julio unsure of when he would ever see his daughter again. However, Mona quickly found Cat to be a handful. The girl was wide-eyed, wild-eyed and a holy terror. Twice the doctor found the three-year-old charming strangers into letting her try things, even though it was quite possible they could have hurt her. At five years old, Mona finally phoned up her ex-lover and told him to take Cat for a while.
By this point, Julio had a son of his own--a young Neil, son of his new American wife. But he took Cat in. For a time, she and her two-year-old brother didn't get along well. Cat would always be framing him for something, desperate for her father's attention. But gradually, possily due to their father's frequent absenses and Neil's mother's absent-minded nature, they eventually grew close and became partners-in-crime. Over the summers, Cat would go back to her mother in Wales, and live for the rest of the year in Spain with her family.
This arrangement changed rather abruptly when, at fifteen, Julio caught Cat fllirting with his first officer. Cat was sent back to live with her mother, and aside from grousing about the lack of sun and missing her brother, adapted well. She finished high school and was half-way into college when it happened.
Through her years in school, Cat had dated many boys. Most of them had been jocks, reflecting Cat's own athletic nature, and her current one had been no different. But her mother hadn't liked him. She'd said he was worrisome, but she trusted her daughter to take care of herself. That was a mistake. One night, while Cat was out with her friends, her boyfriend, a large man on the football team, cornered them with his buddies. It was about then that Cat's body turned, as she puts it, to "knight-o-pilot". At the time, it was as if a voice in her head was directing her actions, guiding her and showing her what to do. She and her friends escaped relatively unscathed, leaving Cat only to deal with the voice in her head.
He told her that he was Gawain, Sir Gawain, a knight of the Round Table who had been dubbed "The Maiden's Knight." He was arrogant but patient, and his influence on Cat's...spirited personality was largely a soothing one. To the puzzlement of her friends and mother--Neil being the only one she told--she changed her major from chemistry to Arthurian history, took up fencing, and when she was 28, moved to the United States to try and help others there.
present
Cat accepted the job at the Academy very recently, and is new as of this school year. She took it because she wanted to come to someplace new ,and was beginning to feel stifled by her parents, even though she was living on her own and some distance from them. She took up a post as a P.E. teacher because she never felt all that academic, and besides, it was open at the time. While she's there, she plans to keep an eye on everything to make sure it runs smoothly (Gawain again).
Leaving behind her family in Spain and Wales was difficult, and most of Cat's money is devoted to her international phone calls to talk to them, specifically her brother Neil. She doesn't own a car and walks to most places. Sometimes, she finds people to "help" on the way over, although it's never gone exactly as she's planned--the bad guys tend to leave laughing when you're 5'2". But she likes the Academy so far and New York, and hopes she'll be able to stay.

other notes Cat, like Gawain, gains more strength as the sun rises and loses it when the sun decreases.
She has two last names due to the Spanish tradition of taking the father and the mother's last name, respectively.
She also speaks with an American accent because she's tired of people asking her where she's from.
...literature*
book title Sir Gawain and the Green Knight – Arthurian Myths
backstory Sir Gawain was one of the more promintent knights of King Arthur's court, said to be as good of a knight as Lancelot, and often playing supportive roles in many of King Arthur's classic stories. He was the nephew of Arthur, and a prince of Wales with several brothers. The only story he actually stars in is "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight", in which his honor narrowly saves his life.
Gawain is portrayed as a noble man by early authors. He is sent on the most dangerous quests, and is named the "Maiden's Knight" because it is his duty to protect women. However, later authors portray him as arrogant, dishonorable and womanizing.

rp sample Man. It had been a tough week. Kateri stared up at the ceiling, one hand behind her head, and the other resting on her stomach. She was, by no means, ready for the first day of school. It was FAAR too early to be getting up. Kateri wasn't the type to sleep in, admittedly, but she was used to waking up when the sun rose, not before.
"Katherine." Her fathered peered in. "Kat, get up. You're late."
"I knoowww," she groaned, rolling over and pulling the pillow over her head
"And that helps?" her father laughed and went to her side, then grabbed her and hauled her up. Kateri squeaked.
"Dad!"
"What, my dear?" he asked innocently, grinning at her. "It's time for school, you know?"
"I am well aware of that!" she scowled at him and wiggled out of his grip. She brushed her long, wavy red hair out of her face. "What time's it, anyways?"
"Six."
"Six?!" She stopped and stared at him, her bright blue eyes wide. "Six? Mierda! I'm going to be late!" She bolted out. Her father laughed his deep, hearty laugh—a laugh Kateri had always envied, as hers sounded more like a whinny than a laugh—and walked out.
In a half an hour—record timing for Kateri, who was well-known for taking hour long showers—Kateri was out and dressed in a plain blue t-shirt and jeans, her long red hair wet and put back into a braid that hung down to her butt. Kateri was short and slender. She'd always hoped for curves like the women in the older movies, but she supposed it was a little too much to hope for at sixteen. She ran into the room and grinned at her father, grabbing a piece of bread from the fridge and kissing his cheek as she got the car keys.
"See you later."
"No makeup?" he asked. "No nothing? C'mon. You must want to impress SOMEONE."
She rolled her eyes. "Bye Dad!" She went to the car, got in and headed for school. Oh, this was going to be so much fun…
